The Book Thief 400-500

Things where Liesel lives are getting really hard. With Germany in the middle of the beginning of the war it was hard for her and her family. Hans was assigned to be part of the air raid special unit which is a difficult job. He sent letters back home to Rosa and Liesel to let them know he was okay. Liesel and Rudy handed out bread on her street to everyone since no one was in very good shape. Liesel still found stories and books to read no matter what the situation though. The Steiners invited Liesel and Rosa over for Christmas since their fathers were gone. Liesel was almost fourteen and her papa still wasn't home. She wanted him home so badly. Hans had broke his leg but he sent Rosa and Liesel a letter saying he was coming home. They were both so excited that he would finally be home. However, Rudy's father was not coming home. Rudy was very upset about this. Hans was given a week of rest before going into the city to be greeted by more army men.
