The Hunger Games 104-204

Cinna and Portia prepared Katniss and Peeta for the interview. Katniss' costume was by far the audience's favorite. Peeta professed his love for Katniss. She was worried that Peeta made her look bad, but really he won her even more sponsors. The next morning the games finally started. Katniss sprinted to get a pack with a sleeping bag and other items in it, and after that she ran into the forest until she thought none of the other tributes would find her. She later found out that Peeta has joined up with all the Career Tributes. He is suppose to help them find Katniss and kill her, since she is suppose to be one of the biggest threats out of all the tributes. The Career Tributes chase Katniss up a tree. She sleeps in the tree while the tributes sleep beneath it, watching to make sure she doesn't escape. Rue is in a neighboring tree, and she warns Katniss about a tracker jacker nest right above her on a branch. Katniss finds a way and uses her knife to cut off the branch, so when it comes down it lands on the tributes. The wasps kill two of the tributes, which are both girls. Katniss makes a run for it and falls. When she wakes up about two days later she finds a stream to freshen up. She walks upstream awhile and shoots a bird similar to the wild turkey and a rabbit. Rue has been following Katniss all this time, and Katniss finally hears her. Rue and Katniss join up together, so they will be a harder force to defeat.

What I Saw and How I Lied pgs. 201-281 (end of book)

Gossip started spreading about the death of Peter Coleridge. Many people believed foul play was involved, and they think it was Evie’s parents who did it. News came about that Peter was having an affair with Bev (Evie’s mom). Evie didn’t want to believe that the man she was in love with was sleeping with her mom. But in the end it all made sense, and she was devastated. Eventually Evie was questioned in court. She lied about everything. She knew her mom was having an affair with Peter, but she told the judge that she was in love with Peter, and that telling people Bev and Peter were having an affair was a way to cover up the fact that she was in love with an older man. In the end Joe and Bev were found innocent. They left Palm Beach, hoping everything would go back to normal. We never really find out if their family lives went back to normal. The book ends with Evie giving Mrs. Grayson the $8,000 her father had to buy a new house, and telling her to whatever she wanted with it.

Tell No One 1-100

Tell No One by Harlan Coben is a really interesting book so far. Dr. Beck and his girlfriend Elizabeth have been going out since after they met each other in the second grade. They got married when they were 25 and were married for awhile before the night Beck's wife was taken from him. Killed, gone, he'd never see her again. Years pass bye and by this time it is almost their 21st Anniversary. He receives an e-mail that was sent to him from an unknown sender. When he opens it there's an error, so he has to wait till the time he first kissed Elizabeth to open it. When he opens it this time there is a camera and he thinks he sees Elizabeth, but she hasn't aged. He doesn't know really what he saw was true or not. This book keeps me wanting to read more and more to see what will happen next. This is a really great book so far. I can't wait to read more and see what will happen next.

What I Saw and How I Lied Pgs. 101-200

Things between Peter and Evie started heating up in pages 101-200. They started by having lunch with their family friends, and Evie’s family. Then Peter invited Evie for a walk to the beach. They kissed on the beach, and Evie had practically fallen head over heals for Peter. The next night Joe had tried to punch Peter because of his suspicion that peter liked Evie .The next day Evie’s mom caught Evie and Peter kissing, and told her that she had to stay away from Peter.  The family and Peter eventually decided to go to boating together, ignoring the rumor of a huge hurricane on the horizon. They told Evie to stay back at the hotel. Eventually the hurricane hit, and Evie had no idea where her parents or Peter were. She stayed with a generous family until she got the news that her parents were alive. She also got the news that her parents were alive. She was overjoyed, but then came the bad news. Peter was dead.  Evie didn’t believe it, and knew then that she was in love with Peter. Then came even worse news, Peter’s body had been found. This confirmed that Peter was, in fact, dead. The chapter ends with the police telling Evie’s parents that they needed to talk to them.

What I Saw and How I Lied Pgs. 1-100

The story starts out post World War 2.  The main character is Evie, a 15-year-old girl. The family decides to take a spur of the moment trip to Palm Beach in Florida.  Evie thought it was going to be an uneventful trip, but was proved very wrong. She went to a dance for a high school that she (obviously) didn’t belong to. She got so frustrated with the fact that no boy would ask her to dance. So, she went to the pool, and threw her sandals in the pool.  There, she caught a boy’s eye, and he asked her for a dance. She thought she would never see him again. To her surprise she saw him the next morning at breakfast, and met her parents. She learned that his name was Peter Colderige, he was twenty-three, and his dad and himself had been army buddies. Peter invited Evie and her family to lunch in a town close to Palm Beach. They half-heartedly accepted, and enjoyed lunch with Peter. During the lunch Peter and Evie escaped, and Peter admitted to thinking Evie was beautiful, but had to stay away from her.

Ties That Bind, Ties That Break 1-100

Ties That Bind, Ties That Break is about a Chinese girl named Ailin Tao who met her Fiancé Hanwei for the first time when she was just five years old. When they meet Hanweis grandmother realized that Ailin had not yet had her feet bound. This caused Hanweis grandmother to call off the wedding. This was because the Liu family was very high class, and it looked bad to not have a wife with unbound feet. When this happened it caused Ailins mother and uncle to be very upset, although her dad and grandmother supported her the whole time. Later that year Ailin finally got to go to public school, that was until her father died of lung cancer. When he died Big Uncle took Ailin out of public school because he thought it was a waste of money. Since she never married to a good husband Big Uncle gave her two options, become a nun or get married to a man that already had two other wives. This caused Ailin to run away to her teachers house, and ask her to find a job for her.

Push 1-100

This book is about Precious Jones, a sixteen year old from Harlem. She is sexually abused by her father, and physically abused by her mother. When she was twelve years old, she had her father's child, and now, at age sixteen, she's pregnant with his child again. Her first child, Mongo, has Downs Syndrome and lives with Precious' grandma. Precious goes to a Harlem junior high school, even though she's old enough to be a junior, because she can't read, write, or even comprehend numbers. After an incident in math class where she cussed out the teacher, she was expelled from school. Her school guidance counselor, Mrs. Lichenstein, comes to her house and suggests that she goes to an alternative school, "Each One Teach One". The next Monday, Precious goes to her new alternative school. Her teacher at the new school is Ms. Rain. She also has several other girls in her class that are illiterate and all have problems at home as bad as she does. She learns the alphabet and how to count. Ms. Rain has the students write in a journal, and then she writes back to them. Precious decides she really likes writing, and she even writes some poems. Then, half way through the school year, she has her second child by her father, and names him Abdul. After her mother has a particularly violent night, Precious can't deal with the abuse anymore, so she runs away with Abdul and goes to a halfway house. Her mom comes to see her at the halfway house, and tells her that her father had AIDS, so she should probably get tested. Also, she said that her father had died. She gets tested, and it turns out she is HIV positive.
