Someone Knows My Name 20-100

The girl is very close with her father as a young child and some of the older women don't think that is appropriate. She and her mother are walking back from another village one night when they are attacked by many men and they can't handle it. She doesn't know what to do and even though her mom tells her to run she seems to be stuck in one place and she won't leave her mother's side. They get her mother and some other people and walk them for awhile. Then she sees that some other men have her father and her mother is no longer around. She knows what has happened but she can't even begin to believe it is actually the truth. Then she sees them kill her father and she knows both her parents are dead. She goes with the men because she has no other choice and she feels awkward and uncomfortable with them and doesn't like being with them. Luckily she has Fanta (a person from her village) with her and that comforts her some.

Nothing will every happy with them again. She then heads to the house knowing that the only person with money to help her might be Rhett and she will have to make him marry her so she doesnt ever have to worry about money again. She makes the trip to Atlanta and finds out that Rhett is in jail and may possibly be hanged. She talks with him and has him almost has him convinced to marry her when he realizes what she is doing. THen she begins her plan to make Frank purpose to her.

Something Blue pg. 232-348

Something Blue by Emily Giffin was a really great book. I'm so happy that Dex and Rachel are together, because I believe that they were meant to be together. Darcy has moved on and found herself another man. Dex and Rachel had a little girl, Julia. Rachel and Darcy aren't on the best terms, but talk every once in awhile. I think it was cool how at the end, Darcy tells Rachel that she's going to use the ribbon as her "something blue." This book was a really great book and I liked it a lot. I noticed that Emily Giffin has a couple more books that I didn't know about; Baby Proof, Love the One Your With, and Heart of the Matter. I hope to read them some day. I still haven't seen the movie to Something Borrowed and I am really wanting and hoping to see it soon!

Water for Elephants 101-200

Jacob is still in his flashback, but when he is in the present, he’s at a nursing home. At this nursing home, there’s one resident that he really hates. That’s because this resident claims that he carried water for elephants when he was younger. Jacob knows that this isn’t true because elephants drink so much water, that it would be impossible to carry all of it. Back in the past, the circus crew goes to do a show, but they leave before the show starts to go to another town. In this new town, there’s a circus going out of business, so Uncle Al is able to purchase their elephant, Rosie, and an elephant train car. At first, Kinko and Jacob hated each other, but they’re starting to become friends because Jacob told him how to take care of his sick dog. August and Marlena invite Jacob to go to a night club with them. Jacob and Marlena start dancing, and they’re getting super close. They have to leave quickly, and when they get out in the alley, Jacob kisses Marlena. It caught Marlena off guard, and she ran off. The next day, Marlena was doing a new show with Rosie the elephant, and she got hurt. She bruised both of her heels and she was out for a couple weeks. Jacob goes to talk to Marlena and she kind of suggests, without really saying it, that she liked the kiss too. Jacob’s friend that he met the first night on the train, Camel, is becoming paralyzed slowly from some form of alcohol poisoning, so Jacob brings him to live in his train car.

Water for Elephants 1-100

Jacob Jankowski is an old man in a nursing home. When he was younger, he worked for the circus, and this book is basically a flashback from that time. Jacob went to an Ivy League college to get a degree in veterinary sciences. However, his parents died shortly before his final exam. His parents had mortgaged the farm, so he didn’t get anything at all in inheritance. He got to the final exam, and he just couldn’t focus at all. He left the room without having filled out a single answer. He ran away and jumped on a train to try to escape. When he got on the train, a man on the train almost threw him out. However, Camel, another man on the train, rescued him and told him that he was on a circus train, The Benzini Brothers’ Most Spectacular Show on Earth. Jacob got a job with the circus as the main veterinarian on the show. His first task is to take care of the main horse in the show, Silver Star. Marlena, the girl who performs on the horses, is devastated to find out that Silver Star cannot be healed. Jacob is kind of under the commands of August, Marlena’s husband. Jacob unintentionally tells August what to do one time, so August almost feeds him to the lions. August can be very temperamental and moody.

Mockingjay 201-300

Something Blue pg. (131-231)

Dex has called off the wedding and told Darcy that he doesn't want to be with her anymore. This is very devastating for Darcy, but I'm happy that Dex finally did what he was going to do. I feel sorry for Darcy, but in a way I don't, because of the way she treated people. She was always the one that got everything she wanted, and now everything is taking a quick turn for the worse for Darcy. I hate that once Darcy and Dex are over with, Darcy is already trying to find another man, that she has to have what she wants. I think there is a great moral to this story which is, you can't always get what you want in life. Life is going to have its ups and downs, but no matter what happens you have to move on with your life and not give up. When things get bad there is always something that will make it better, it may not be exactly right after it happens, but it will happen eventually.

Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 101-200

One day Chiyo receives a package from Mr. Tanaka. It actually turns out to be a letter telling her how her mom died, and shortly after her dad also passed away. Chiyo felt like giving up on life at this point in time. One day she was out running errands and another geisha was making fun of her for crying in public, and a man was kind to her, and gave her money for something to eat. Instead of getting something to eat she went to the Gion Shrine, and put the money in the offertory box, and prayed that she should become a successful geisha. Days later Chiyo received a note to lie, and go visit Mameha (another successful geisha/enemy of Hatsumomo). After this visit between Mameha and Chiyo Mameha showed up at the Okiya to ask for mother to put Chiyo back in classes, and if she would be her sister. Mother agreed, but not without having promised Chiyo would pay her debts. So, Chiyo began her life as Mameha’s sister, which is equivalent to having an older geisha train you, and put your name out there. Chiyo soon had her named changed to Sayuri. She learned that since she had become a geisha, Hasumomo was trying to trash her name, and she began telling rude lies about Sayuri. Mameha and Sayuri did everything in their power to prevent this from happening, and trying to attend parties where they wouldn’t be. Toward the end of the 100 pages Mameha and Sayuri were attending a party that the Chinese chairman was attending.

Something Blue pg. (30-130)

Something Blue by Emily Giffin is a really great book. I love her writing, it is just so good that I can't seem to put it down. Something Borrowed is also by Emily Giffin and this is the sequel to that book. I love how she keeps you entertained and she keeps you reading to keep finding out what happens next. Emily Giffin is so far my favorite author, her writings are just so good. It is slightly different having had Rachel be the one talking and now Darcy is the one talking. It upsets me with what happened to Darcy, but I believe it was the best for Dex and Rachel. This book and Something Borrowed both have many surprizes throughout the book. I absolutely love this story line, it keeps getting better and better. There is never a dull moment in this book, it always is grabbing your attention. I can't wait to see what will happen next in the book.

Everyone else thinks it’s a stupid idea because their town, like Chambers, is pretty much all Caucasian, but Malcolm is somewhat of a hero to Ben. Ben also makes friends with Rudy, former Catholic priest turned town drunk because he has a love for Malcolm X too. He notices that Dallas is so good with her little brother, Joe Henry, and that makes him even more attracted to her. Mockingjay 101-200

One day, Katniss and Finnick were waiting to see if Beetee could again interrupt the Capital's original programing with clips of Katniss. They saw that Peeta was being interviewed, yet again about the rebelling situation. Peeta had said that Katniss would be dead by tomorrow. A short while after, the president of District Thirteen ordered everyone to get into the barracks. The barracks were in a room deep under ground, so that if anyone bombed them, that they mostly likely wouldn't get hurt. It seemed like weeks after they got out, but they did. The television crew tried to get more footage of Katniss after the attack on District Thirteen. She just couldn't do it though. She thought of Peeta and his blood splattered all over the white tile. Haymitch then talked to everybody and decided to get Peeta and Annie from the Capital. Gale was the first one to volunteer of course. Once they got back, Katniss wanted to go see Peeta. She walked into the room and Peeta started running toward her. It wasn't what she think would happen though. He tried killing her by choking her, because he thought that Katniss had killed his family and everything that happened was all her fault. Peeta then had to be put into intensive care, along with Katniss. She had bruises all over her neck from his hands, and he basically went crazy because of what the Capital had done to him. Prim is trying to do everything in her power to make sure Peeta gets better and so he will love Katniss again. Something Blue pg. 1-29

Something Blue by Emily Giffin is so far a pretty good book. I haven't gotten to far in it, as I just finished Something Borrowed and that was a really good book. Something Blue is the sequel to Something Borrowed. I am really excited to see what will happen next in this book. I hope it is as good as the last one and not a dissapointment, which I'm sure it won't be! Emily Giffin's books are very interesting, and suspenceful; I love them!

Something Borrowed pg. 250-322

This book was amazing! No wonder it's New York Times Bestselling Author! I absolutely loved this book. The suspence was hard to get through, but it kept me interested and wanting to know more with what will happen next. This book is definately one of my all time favorites! It was very good, and I am now really excited to watch the movie! I hope it is as good as the book was, but it seems as if the book is usually always better. I am also excited to start reading Something Blue also by Emily Giffin. She is such an amazing author, and I can't wait to see how that book will turn out!

It is a document that says that Vidromek knew that the windshields they were making were defective, but they continued to make them anyway. Jasmine asks Marcelo to come with her to visit her home in Vermont. She thinks it will help him to clear his head and figure out what he wants to do with the document. They meet Jasmine’s dad, Amos. The letter says that Jasmine and Arturo had an affair. Marcelo can’t believe that Jasmine would do this, and he can’t believe that his dad would do this. As she made her way around town, she would see the remains of people, some still decomposing and others not. Several skulls and bones were lying in the pathway of the road. Gale, that was in the hovercraft protecting her, told her that it was probably time to go. They left and went to the "no longer existing" District Thirteen. Once they arrived, they went into the ground to see the housing. There was no window to stare out of whatsoever. Katniss is tired of living like this. They have to ration their food, get a schedule printed on their forearm, and can't even leave the perimeter of the fence. Katniss talked to the president of the district about leaving it hunt, after she agreed to be the Mockingjay. The president decided to let Katniss go to District Eight where there shouldn't be anymore bombing for awhile. She went there with several bodyguards that also included Gale and Boggs. She visited all of the sick or injured people kept in the hospital. All of the people were happy and yet surprised to see her. When it was time for her to leave, several planes from the Capital came and started bombing the hospital, trying to kill the injured so they don't get well again. Katniss, Gale, and Boggs made their way over to a blue building. Katniss and Gale noticed that there were guns on top of an adjacent building. They climbed up there to start shooting. They didn't really know how to work the guns that well, so they use their arrows that Beetee had made fort them. Several of the planes were shot down, then some of the remaining ones left. After they climbed back down, the camera crew was taping Katniss' reaction to the whole situation. Katniss yelled at President Snow as a plane was falling and she told him, "Fire is catching! And if we burn, you will burn with us!"

Deadling pgs. 301-316

In the last few pages of the book Ben’s health really fails him. He sleeps more often than not, and has stopped going to school regularly. He loses a lot of weight, and is unhealthy looking. Marla (his old therapist) comes in to apologize for leaving him, to which he replies with kindness, and forgives her. Dallas also apologizes, but in the end Ben apologizes. Dallas ends up spending the night with him, and we know that he leaves the earth on good terms with Dallas. The epilogue tells what Cody talks about Ben. This book is definitely a tear-jerker, and one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

Deadline pgs. 201-300

In the next 100 pages Ben learns why Rudy left the ministry, and became an alcoholic. He learns Rudy is a pedophile, and did everything to deny the fact, but the feelings were too strong. Rudy thought becoming a priest would heal his issue. In the end, it did not. He was very good friends with a family. The family had a 13-year-old boy, who Rudy molested. Rudy continued to molest him, and stayed friends with the family, and the boy never told. Eventually signs were showing though. The boy lost interest in schoolwork in athletics. One day Rudy found that the boy had shot himself in the chapel. That’s when he decided to quit the priesthood, and drink to numb the pain. Ben also starts telling people about his blood disease, and that he didn’t have much time left. He told Coach, who took it hard, but helped him through it. He told his brother, who also took it harsh. Then he told Dallas, who took it harsher than the other two. She told Ben to leave the house, and they didn’t talk since then. Ben often felt fatigued, and noticed the disease catching up with him.

Something Borrowed pg 149-249

This book is amazing! I absolutely love it and the suspense it leaves me with. I keep hoping that Dex will finally dump Darcy and call off the wedding. I really hope he does and then goes out with Rachel. Dex and Rachel seem like the perfect match. It is so cute when they are together, and I really hope he will forget about Darcy and go after Rachel. I didn't know that there was a movie to this book. I hope it is as good as the book, because the book is definitely not a disappointment so far. This is so far one of my favorite books that I have read. It even surpasses The Hunger Games series, and that series was my all-time favorite! I'm really excited to see how this book ends and to see what will happen in the sequel to this book!

Marcelo In the Real World 101-200

Jasmine and Marcelo talk about beauty a lot. Marcelo wonders if Jasmine knows that she’s beautiful. Marcelo doesn’t find women beautiful, and eh think that makes him weird or wrong. The only thing he finds beautiful is the music he listens to. Wendell asks Marcelo to help him “get” Jasmine. Wendell wants Marcelo to ask Jasmine if she will go on a ride on Wendell’s yacht with them. Wendell knows he has no chance of getting Jasmine by himself, because Jasmine hates him. However, he thinks if Marcelo invites her, she might come. Marcelo doesn’t want to do this, because he knows that Wendell is going to try to take advantage of Jasmine. Wendell basically says that if Marcelo doesn’t do this for him, then he will ruin Marcelo’s chance of going back to school at Paterson. Marcelo still hasn’t decided what to do about that. Jasmine tells Marcelo that her brother was killed by a horse, and also that her mom died. The only family member she has left is her dad. Arturo, Marcelo’s dad, moves him to work with Wendell full time, instead of with Jasmine full time. Marcelo doesn’t like this at all, because he really likes working with Jasmine. Marcelo found a picture of a girl while he was helping Wendell. This girl has half a face. The bottom half was somehow destroyed. He found it in a box marked “trash”. He feels very drawn to the girl, and he wants to find out who she is, and what happened to her. Marcelo takes clues from the background of the picture and finds out where the picture was taken. It was taken in a law firm in Boston. Marcelo goes to that law firm and asks the man who works there what the picture is about. He tells Marcelo that the girl is named Ixtel. Ixtel is one of his clients, and she’s suing Arturo’s client, Vidromek, a windshield company. One of the windshields that Vidromek manufactures shattered incorrectly and ruined the bottom half of the girl’s face. Marcelo realizes that his dad isn’t the person he thought. He can’t believe his dad could see this picture and throw it in a trash box.
