Deadline 201-300

Ben goes to visit Rudy one day and Rudy finally tells him why he quit being a priest. It’s because he was a child molester. He joined the priesthood so he could be closer to God so maybe he would quit having weird thoughts about children. He ended up molesting an altar boy and that boy ended up committing suicide. Rudy can hardly live with himself, and that’s why he’s always drunk. He has “feelings” for Ben too, so he tells Ben to stay away from him for good. Even though Ben’s teacher, Mr. Lambeer, tells him he can’t continue with his Malcolm X Avenue project, he’s going to anyway. He doesn’t care if he fails that class, because he doesn’t need his diploma since he’s going to die anyway. Ben goes for a run, and he realizes he can’t run fast anymore. The disease is catching up to him pretty fast and he’s starting to feels some effects. Ben decides he needs to tell people about his disease, so he starts with Rudy and his Coach. Next he tells Dallas. Dallas freaks out on him and tells him she never wants to see him again. Next he tells Cody. He’s very supportive, but he’s really hurt that Ben didn’t tell him right away. The next day, he goes to visit Rudy, and he finds him dead. He found a note addressed to him, and it basically said that Rudy enjoyed his company, but he just can’t deal with the world anymore. Ben finally told his parents about what happened. His mom’s very unstable anyway, and she takes the news really really hard. Ben continues to have conversations with Hey-soos, and during one particular conversation, he just has a feeling it will be his last one. He knows he’s dying soon. In class, Ben ends up telling everyone that he’s dying. The next day, Ben gets to school, and he hears the news that Sooner Cowans died in a car crash.
