I. Literary Elements
A.Narrator- First Person (Quentin) ‘“It’s not that I don’t like prom. I also don’t like the people who like prom,” I explained...’ p. 12
Protagonist- Quentin is the protagonist. He is one of those kind of weird high school kids that has a crush on the popular girl, Margo Roth Spiegelman. “I laughed awkwardly...” p. 25
B.Antagonist- Margo is the Antagonist. She just wanted to basically find who she really was, so she left and went to New York. “...’it seems that Margo has run away. Again.’” p. 101
C.Setting- This mostly takes place in Orlando, Florida. It goes anywhere from the school, to around town, and to Q’s friends’ houses. At the end of the book it takes place in Agloe, New York. “There, in the distance, Disney World.” p. 57
D.Conflict- I think it’s man v. man because Q is kind of against Margo. He doesn’t want Margo to leave, but she wants to go off and explore by herself so she can find out who she really is. “Margo Roth Spiegelman was a person, too.” p. 199
E.Theme- I think the theme is basically just growing up. Margo’s parents always say how she is a selfish self centered human being. Margo just doesn’t like what people think of her because they don’t actually know the real her, they just know what they see. ‘“...And still so self-centered!”’ p. 101
F.Historical Context- This book always refers back to Walt Whitman and his poems. “...wedged between two yearbooks. Walt Whitman.” p. 115
II. Reflection- I thoroughly enjoyed this book a lot. I never knew what was coming next. I would predict one thing, but then another happened. It always caught my attention no matter what. In the end, I always thought Margo and Q would end up together, but they don’t. Margo just keeps on traveling and Q goes back to Florida so he can go to college and have his own life.

III. Reflection
I enjoyed this book very much. It was non-stop action the whole time. It made me want to keep reading and not put the book down. It kept me on my toes. I would recommend this book to someone who likes sort of futuristic settings and major conflicts with non-stop action.

The Great Gatsby 100-180
Tom and Daisy show up at Gatsby's house for a party one night. Gatsby was unhappy because Daisy had an unpleasant time at his party. Gatsby wants things to be the exact same between him and Daisy before he had left Louisville. He wants Daisy to leave Tom for him. All he really wants is for Daisy to tell Tom that she never really loved him. Gatsby calls off all of his parties and fires all of his servants. Nick doesn't really know what happened until one afternoon he went over to talk to Gatsby. Gatsby had told Nick that Daisy had been spending a lot of time at his house and he didn't want anyone spreading rumors. One day when Gatsby was over at Daisy's house for tea, Tom figured out what was going on between them. They all go into the city for the day. Gatsby and Tom end up getting into a fight. Daisy tells Tom how she has never loved him. They then go back home and Daisy is driving Gatsby's car. On the way home, Myrtle Wilson runs in the middle of the highway. Daisy ends up hitting her. Daisy keeps on driving, but Myrtle dies instantly. Nick tells Gatsby to just give up on Daisy, but he refuses. Wilson was determined to find the owner to the car and he figured out it was Gatsby. He then went to Gatsby's house and found him floating in the pool. He then shot Gatsby, killing him, and then shot himself. Nick tried holding a big funeral for Gatsby, but no one would come except Gatsby's dad and a few other people. Gatsby's dad filled Nick on Gatsby's early life. Nick learned that Tom and Daisy are careless people who will never have negative consequences all because they have a lot of money to protect them. Nick decides to move back to the Midwest.
The Great Gatsby 81-150
Gatsby goes over to Nick's house for his tea with Daisy. At first he acts very nervous and awkward, like a lovestruck teenager. Then he starts acting really joyful, and he warms up to her a lot. Gatsby takes Daisy and Nick back to his house to show her all of his stuff. They start to reconnect, and Nick kind of sneaks out when he notices that they're so into each other that they're hardly paying attention to him anymore. Nick finally reveals part of Gatsby's past. He did not inherit his wealth from anyone. He lived on a farm in North Dakota and attended college in Minnesota for a while before going to work on a yacht. The man that he worked for on the yacht really liked him, and he tried to leave his inheritance to Gatsby. However, the man's wife stole the money. After this, Gatsby dedicated his life to becoming wealthy. Tom begins to become suspicious of Gatsby, but he doesn't realize yet that Gatsby and Daisy are having an affair. He attends a party at Gatsby's with Daisy one night to keep an eye on him, and he ends up getting angry and telling Daisy that Gatsby is just a criminal. Daisy denies it and says he got his money honestly. Gatsby is starting to get a little distressed in his relationship with Daisy because he wants everything to be like it was the first time they were together, but so much has changed over the five years. Daisy, Gatsby, Jordan, Nick, and Tom all go to New York together. Tom is getting really fed up with Gatsby because he has definitely figured out that Gatsby and Daisy are having a fling. Gatsby and Daisy go in one car while Nick, Tom, and Jordan travel in another car. When they all get there, it's too hot to be outside, so they rent a suite to be in. Tom immediately confronts Gatsby and starts trying to pick a fight with him. Gatsby ends up yelling at him that Daisy never even loved him, and she's going to leave Tom for him. As they're fighting, Daisy realizes that she does love Tom, and even though she loves Gatsby too, she just can't be with him. They head back to Long Island the same way they came. Nick, Tom, and Jordan come upon the scene of an accident, and they realize that Myrtle, Tom's mistress, has been hit by a vehicle and killed. After hearing about the type of vehicle it was, Nick realizes it was Gatsby's car. He gets back to Gatsby's house, and Gatsby tells him that Daisy was actually driving at the time, but he's going to cover for her, because he's still in love with her even though she has chosen Tom over him.
The Great Gatsby 80-180
Gatsby is nervous about the reunion between him and Daisy. The meeting between them is very awkward at first, but then becomes a joyful experience for the both of them. Once they are done at Nick's house, they all head over to Gatsby's mansion so he can show Daisy his possessions. Daisy is overwhelmed by his lifestyle. Nick wonders about the two. Gatsby has dreamed and fantasized about Daisy ever since they were split up. Nick is concerned if Daisy can live up to those expectations that have been set by Gatsby. Later, Nick interrupts an interview of Gatsby's and tells how he really lived his life. He was born James Gatz and lived on a farm in North Dakota. He dropped out of college after two weeks. Gatsby fell in love with wealth after traveling the world on Dan Cody's yacht. After this experience, Gatsby told himself that he would become a wealthy man. Tom shows up at Gatsby's house one day, then Tom invites Gatsby to his house for dinner because he is suspicious about the two. After Daisy has a bad time at one of his parties, Gatsby goes to Nick for help. Gatsby calls off his parties because they were just a way to try to lure Daisy to his house. Nick goes to Tom's house for lunch, and Gatsby and Jordan are there as well. Daisy and Gatsby show their love for each other, and this aggravates Tom. They all go into New York City and find out the Wilson discovered that his wife has been cheating on him, but doesn't know with who. Tom questions Gatsby about his life, and then the group heads back to Long Island. On the way there, they discover that Myrtle has been killed in a hit-and-run. Nick believes that she was hit by Gatsby and Daisy. Once home, Nick is sent to check in on Daisy. He finds that her and Tom are back to normal. Nick tries to tell Gatsby to leave Daisy and Long Island, but Gatsby refuses to leave her behind. Nick goes to work, then has a long talk with George Wilson about Myrtle. Wilson goes to Gatsby's house, where he shoots Gatsby, then shoots himself. Nick heads back to find Gatsby dead in his pool. Very few people attend his funeral. Tom and Daisy leave New York without telling anyone. Gatsby's father, Henry C. Gatz, came from Minnesota to attend the funeral. He tells Nick of Gatsby's early life. Nick decides to move back the Midwest. Before he leaves, he meets Tom. Tom tells him that told Wilson that Gatsby owned the car that killed Myrtle. Before Nick leaves New York, he reflects on his time there. The lifestyle in the East is very different from the Midwest and it shapes people's personalities. Nick reflects on what America must have been like for explorers coming their to chase their dream. He compares this to Gatsby's relationship with Daisy.

The Great Gatsby 1-100
Nick has moved to New York to get into the bond business. He lives in what's called the West Egg, and his cousin, Daisy, lives across the bay in the East Egg with her husband, Tom. Nick ends up meeting Daisy's friend, Jordan. One night, someone brings up Mr. Gatsby, who lives next door to Nick. No one knows much about Gatsby, other than rumors they've heard about him killing a guy. Jordan tells Nick that Tom is cheating on Daisy with his mistress, Myrtle. Tom then introduces Nick to Myrtle. Nick then gets invited to one of Gatsby's huge parties at his mansion. He meets Jordan there, and he just sits and talks to her because he doesn't really know anyone else. Later that evening he is sitting by a man and tells him how he has never met the host of the party. The man then introduced himself as Jay Gatsby. Nick and Jordan end up dating, and Gatsby and Nick become friends and hang out. Nick then finds out about Gatsby's past and he learns how he used to have a relationship with Daisy. Daisy is the only reason he moved back to New York, because he wanted to be closer to her. Nick is suppose to arrange a tea and invite Daisy over, but she isn't suppose to bring Tom. Gatsby shows up and he introduces himself to Daisy. Then Daisy remembers the past and how they've actually met before. After having tea, Gatsby asks Daisy if he can give her a tour of his house, which she is greatly impressed by how big it is. Gatsby gives Daisy and Nick a tour, and Daisy starts crying because it brings back so many memories.

The Great Gatsby 1-80
Nick is a young man that has moved to New York from the Midwest to go into the bond business. He moves to a part of Long Island called the West Egg, and right next to that there is the East Egg. Nick's arrogant cousin, Tom, and his flighty wife, Daisy, live on the East Egg. One night, Nick goes over to eat supper with them. This is where he meets Jordan, who is a golfer and Daisy's good friend. At their supper, somebody brings up Jay Gatsby, a man who lives next to Nick on the West Egg. Nick doesn't know him, but he hears a lot of far-fetched and extraordinary rumors about him. Nick also finds out from Jordan that Tom is cheating on Daisy with his mistress, Myrtle. A few days later, Nick goes with Tom to meet Myrtle. They all go to Tom's apartment to have a party, and Nick hears more about this infamous Gatsby. Tom punches Myrtle in the face when she brings up Daisy, and breaks her nose, further showing off his strength and temper. A few days later, Nick gets invited to a party at Gatsby's mansion. He is one of the few guests that is invited; most guests just show up. When he gets there, he finds Jordan and talks to her because he doesn't really know anyone else. He sits down with a man and tells him that he hasn't even met Gatsby yet. That man then introduces himself as Gatsby. Gatsby and Nick kind of become friends and hang out together sometimes. Nick also starts to date Jordan, even though he knows that she's dishonest, and he kind of wavers back and forth on how much he actually likes her. A few days later, when Nick is hanging out with Gatsby, Gatsby tells him about his past, and how he went to Oxford and where he came from. Nick believes him, but later, when he meets up with a dishonest man who had rigged the World Series a few years before, Nick becomes suspicious. He doesn't know why Gatsby has ties to this man, and he finds it a little suspicious. Nick also finds out that Gatsby and Daisy used to be together, and Gatsby moved back to be closer to her. He's supposed to arrange a tea date with Jordan, and invite Gatsby and Daisy, but not let Daisy know that Gatsby will be there.
The Great Gatsby 1-80
The book is narrated by Nick Carraway, a man from Minnesota that moved to New York to learn about the bond business. Nick rents a house on West Egg. It is a beat up bungalow in between two mansions. The one mansion belongs to Gatsby. Nick goes to East Egg to have dinner with Daisy, his cousin, and her husband Tom. As they are eating dinner, Tom gets a phone call. Daisy's friend Jordan, tells Nick that it is from Tom's lover, who is also in New York. When Nick is leaving, Tom tells him that he would like for him to take interest in Jordan. When Nick gets home, he sees Gatsby on his lawn looking out at the water. In between West Egg and the rest of the city lies a valley where ashes are dumped, and above the valley is a billboard. On the billboard are the unblinking eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleburg. Nick and Tom take a train through the valley to George Wilson's place. This is where Myrtle, Tom's lover, lives. Then they go to an apartment to have a party. Nick is told that Jay Gatsby is a relative of Kaiser Wilhelm, who was the ruler of Germany in World War I. Tom gives Myrtle a puppy during the party. Tom then breaks her nose when she mentions Daisy. Gatsby has become famous throughout New York because of the parties he holds. Nick attends one of the parties. No one there knows the truth about how Gatsby got so wealthy or how he got to where he is in life. Gatsby is no where to be found, so Nick and Jordan go out to find him. Nick and Jordan find sitting outside at a table. Nick and Gatsby talk for a while until Gatsby gets a phone call. Nick takes Tom and Daisy's advice and starts seeing Jordan, even though he thinks she is untrustworthy. Gatsby takes Nick to lunch one day and tells him about his past. Nick realizes that his story doesn't really add up, but then Gatsby shows him examples of what he said to prove that it's true. As they are entering the city, Gatsby gets pulled over, but is left alone when he shows the officer a card. He introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfshiem, who was supposedly responsible for fixing the World Series. Wolfshiem has connections with underground business and that makes Nick believe that Gatsby's wealth has something to do with this. Nick meets up with Jordan, who tells him that Gatsby is in love with Daisy. Jordan tells Nick that Daisy fell in love with Gatsby when he was a military officer in her town. She also says that he bought his mansion in West Egg so he could be closer to her. Gatsby asked Jordan to try to convince Nick to have him and Daisy meet up.

Whistling in the Dark 1-100
Sally is a ten-year old girl with a huge imagination. Sally loved her dad very much, but he died a few years ago. When he was on his death bed, Sally promised him that she would do her best to take care of her little sister, Troo. Troo is a very spunky girl who is just ten months younger than Sally. She was in the car with her father when he died, but she sort of represses the memory, and it makes her kind of bitter for a child. Shortly after Sally's dad died, Sally's mom married Hall. Hall is a very angry alcoholic, and I kind of get the idea that Sally's mother only married him for the sake of having a husband to provide for her. Sally and Troo also have an older sister named Nell. Sally's mother gets sick and has to go to the hospital. She ends up being in there for a long time, and it's up to Hall and Nell to take care of the girls. Hall yells at them a lot and beats them when he's home, but he's gone most of the time, leaving them to fend for themselves. Nell pays way more attention to her boyfriend than she does to her little sisters. Sally and Troo end up staying with and eating with their neighbors a lot of the time because as a nine and ten year old girls, they can't exactly fend for themselves. In their town, there was a murder about a year ago of a girl named Junie Piakowski. Junie was raped and murdered, and Sally thinks that one of the cops, Officer Rasmussen, did it. However, everyone else tells her that it's just her overactive imagination. When another girl, Sara Heinemann, goes missing, Troo is really convinced that Rasmussen is behind it. She gets chased by a man down an alley one night when she is walking home by herself, and though she never sees him, she thinks it's Rasmussen. She's also convinced that she's going to be Rasmussen's next victim. Rasmussen goes to her house to ask her something about the Sara Heinemann case, and when he gets out his wallet, she sees a picture of Junie in it next to a picture of herself.
Between Shades of Gray 200-300
Jonas recovers from his scurvy. Christmas arrived a couple weeks later. The time of the season boosted everybody's spirits. Food rations were saved for a Christmas Eve meal in the bald man's shack. Before everyone left the shack, guards burst in to escort people to the office to try to sign the papers. The guards worked them hard on Christmas Day, then that night Lina was forced to draw the commander's portrait. The commander was looking through the file for Lina's family. After the commander left, Lina took the file to see what is inside. She had Andrius read it to her. It said that her father was in a prison and that's all he could read. Lina's birthday came up. They threw her a surprise party and gave her more paper and drawing utensils. Andrius gave her a book. Spring came around. Andrius told Lina that the NKVD were relocating people and that her family was on the list. Andrius and his mother weren't though. They were sent away the next day. They took a truck ride to a train station, where they would ride in cars for a week before making a stop for food and a shower. They went a couple more miles before stopping at the bank of the Angara River. They were to be on barges in the river for the rest of their trip. They made several stops for supplies and made their final stop in Trofimovsk, which is at the very top of the Arctic Circle, near the North Pole. Everyone huddled together in the barren wasteland they were left at. The NKVD made half of the people finish building a bakery and barracks for the NKVD and the other half made shacks for themselves. The day after they finished building, an American ship floated by. Before it reached the camp though, the NKVD shoved everyone into the shacks so they wouldn't be seen by the Americans. A snowstorm came through a couple days later. Once the storm broke, they had to get back to work fishing and collecting firewood for the NKVD. Lina and the bald man went to go get firewood. The bald man explained that Lina's family was deported for helping the cousin's escape. Lina's mother had known this but kept it a secret for Lina and Jonas. One night, Lina caught her Mother talking to Kretzky. She went to see what they were talking about, and he told them that their father was shot in prison.

The Death Cure 93-192
Thomas awoke while still on the berg and waited for the others to wake up. When they did, they all discussed what they were going to do from this point. Brenda had told Thomas that she thought the others had gone to Denver. They then all decided that that is where they would go. Brenda said she knew a guy who lived there, Hans, that could remove the devices from their brains. When they arrived, Newt had to stay on the berg beings he was the only one who had the flare. If he didn't he wouldn't be able to go into Denver anyway, and he'd be taken away. Once they got into Denver, a guy came up to Thomas and told him he had to go to a house, and see Gally. Thomas didn't know if it could be true, but they decided to go anyway to see if it was really Gally. When they got there, sure enough, it was Gally in the door way. They then talked to him for awhile and asked him what the deal with WICKED was. He gave them some answers, but said that they would have to wait for more. He also told them that WICKED was looking for Hans, and that they wanted to kill him. Brenda then knew that they had to get going so they could get to Hans before anything bad happened to him, or them. They had to ask around for awhile, but they finally figured out where Hans lived. Once they got there, they asked Hans if he could take the devices out of their brains. Although he knew Thomas had worked for WICKED, because he had at one time too, he didn't like him for some reason. He still agreed though, to take out the device. When he was about ready to, WICKED took control of Thomas's body. Thomas tried to fight it, but was having little success. He grabbed a knife and almost stabbed Hans, but luckily, Minho, Jorge, and Brenda were all there to stop him. Once they finally got Thomas under control, Hans removed the device. When Thomas awoke, they decided to go back to the berg to check on Newt. When they got there, Newt wasn't there. He had been taken by guards to The Crank Place. They then flew the berg to The Crank Place, and tried to find Newt. When they got there they found him and he was even worse than before. He told the others to leave him alone. He also threatened them with a launcher that he had stolen from a guard. He didn't want his friends to see him like this. Thomas then started to leave and the others followed. Once back on the berg they were ready to take off, and realized one thing. Newt was gone.

Father calls a professional to come down and look at it. They all go down there and the professor teaches them how old things were and they have never found anything like it. The language was so old that it has never been recorded before so they got all sorts of professionals down. They decided to go into the spirit world and look at the cave in the spirit world and see the difference. They all go into the world Victor, Elizabeth, and Henry. They all descend down into the cave and marvel at everything inside everything unchanged of time. The dark butterfly lands on Victor and he could read all of the languages and things so fast he could barely comprehend it. They looked for ways to bring Konrad back and they go deeper into the caves and find a tomb. They could hear noises coming from it like someone was sleeping and trying to wake up but could not. This made everyone feel uneasy and short on time Victor tried to read what was written on it. He struggles through the disturbing images he was watching and finally at the last seconds reads it and they make haste towards their bodies and enter the real world. Astonished he tells everybody he found out a way to bring Konrad back. He says they must form him a body from mud place a piece of him that was once living inside of it and a special black liquid that would make it come alive. Then Konrad could enter the body through the spirit world. They just had to find the black liquid and at that moment Victor felt one of those spirit butterflies on him and when he tried to catch it would form around him in a liquid form. They caught it in a jar and it liquified. They found the last ingredient to bring Konrad back.

The Fault in Our Stars 201-300
Hazel and Augustus kissed for the first time in the Anne Frank house. They just kind of got lost in the moment, and when they finally stopped kissing, they broke apart to the whole crowd cheering for them. They went back to the hotel room and slept together. They are both totally in love with each other, and it is so adorable. The next day, Augustus was acting kind of weird, and that night, he told Hazel that his cancer had come back, and it was all over his body. She knows that he's not going to live much longer, and she's absolutely devastated. She understands how stupid it was for her to try to distance herself from Augustus because she was going to die. She realizes that it would be impossible for her to quit loving him for any reason. A couple weeks after they got back from Amsterdam, Gus ended up in the hospital for terrible chest pains, and this is kind of the beginning of a continuous struggle for him. Hazel spends pretty much all of her time with him and he just keeps getting worse. He's in a wheel chair and can't really do much for himself anymore. One night, he called her in the middle of the night and said he needed her to come get him from a gas station. He went to get some cigarettes because he got his pack taken away, and he wanted to do one last thing by himself, but his G-tube into his stomach got messed up, and he had thrown up, and he needed help. Hazel came to help him, and she ended up calling an ambulance to come get him. A few days later, he came home from the hospital, and all of his family had come home because everyone knew he was living some of his last days. Augustus called Hazel and asked her to write him a eulogy to read at the next cancer kid support group. He wanted to be able to "attend his own funeral," so he had Hazel and Isaac say some words about him. Eight days later, he died. Hazel felt absolutely empty, as did I. It was the most horrible things she had ever gone through. A few days later, the funeral was held, and Peter Van Houten showed up. Hazel couldn't believe he was there, and when he offered her an explanation of the end of An Imperial Affliction, she turned him down. She said that he was a pathetic alcoholic, and she told him to go home. A few days later, Isaac mentions some writing to Hazel that Augustus had been working on. Hazel goes frantic trying to find it, because she thinks it might be "his sequel" to An Imperial Affliction. Van Houten finds Hazel again and tells her that his daughter died of cancer just like the girl in his book. Hazel almost feels sorry for him, and she tells him he should quit drinking and go back to doing what he does best: writing. Hazel also finds out that her mom has been pursuing a new job for when Hazel dies. She never told Hazel because she thought it would hurt her, but Hazel is excited that her mom will still have something to live for after she dies.
Paper Towns 100-200
Quentin knows that he's going to have to be the one to find Margo. Her parents just think she is obnoxious, so they don't put much effort into finding her. Q remembers that whenever Margo has disappeared before, she has always left clues as to where she is. Margo's room is directly across from his, so he can see into it. He notices a poster that wasn't there before. Q and his friends go over to his house to investigate. They found some records and poems. They said to unhook a door. At first they thought it was Margo's, but then they figured out it was Quentin's. They then found a note with an address on it. It led them to an old strip mall, which was sketchy. There was graffiti on the wall that was written by Margo. It said, "You will go to the paper towns and you will never come back.” Quentin had to figure out what the paper towns were. He concluded that they were subdivisions built, but no one ever lived in them. After all this, Q began to think Margo was dead, but then he went back to the mall to see if he could find anything else. He figured that someone had been there, assuming Margo, and he found a couple travel books. He concluded that she is probably planning a trip somewhere, but he doesn't know what for or why.

People were already living in the makeshift huts, but they had to share. Lina and her family get to share a hut with a grumpy lady that makes them pay rent. The next day Lina's mother gets sent to the commander's office. She comes back later and tells them that the NKVD wanted her to work for them by being a translator and spying on people's conversations. She declined the offer, even though she was promised more food and better treatment if she did. Early the next morning, the NKVD divide up the deportees for work detail. Lina and her mother got sent off to dig holes, while Jonas got sent to make shoes. The officers told them that the amount of food they receive depends on how much they accomplish. After many hours of digging holes in the rain, they return to the hut to find saved rainwater. Andrius meets up with Lina and tells her information about the Soviets that only he knows, then gives her cigarettes for her mother and Jonas. During that night, the NKVD gathered everyone into the kolkhoz office, which is the commander's office. The commander told them that they were to sign a document they agree to join this farm, to pay a war tax, and to agree that they were criminals. The documents also said their sentence would be twenty-five years' hard labor for being criminals against the USSR. After discussion, they decided to not sign any documents. A standoff took place throughout the night until morning, when it was time to get back to work. Lina and her mother went back to work digging holes. The commander came out and tried to scare them by halfway burying them in the holes they dug. When they got back to the hut, Lina's mother went to talk to Andrius. Lina followed Andrius after their talk to see where he sleeps. She found out that he sleeps in the NKVD building and accuses him and his mother of working with the Soviets. The next time Lina and Andrius meet, she brings it up. He tells her that they threatened to kill him unless his mother slept with them. After a couple more nights sitting in the commander's office, some of the people gave in and signed the document. Those who did were able to go to the nearby village. People bribed the ones who could to mail letters out to loved ones. In the following weeks of waiting for a reply to the letters, Lina has to draw a map and a man for the NKVD and Jonas had made boots for the family for the upcoming winter. Mrs. Rimas was the first one to get a letter back. It said that the Germans had invaded Lithuania, that her husband was alive, and it had a bible reading in it. In the following week, Jonas had become ill. A man diagnosed it as scurvy and that he needs nourishment if he was to survive. Their mother does everything she can to get food and water to Jonas.

The Death Cure p.1-92
Thomas woke up in a white room. He didn't know what was going on but knew it had to be another test, another trial. There was nothing but white walls, and a desk in the room. He badly wanted to call out to Teresa, and even tried a few times, but nothing ever happened. Three times a day somebody would bring him meals, but they never opened the door far enough for Thomas to get a good look or notice much at all. By keeping track of the meals, he realized he had been in there for over two weeks. Finally, one day the door opened all the way, and the rat man was standing there. He told Thomas that he had passed the third and final trial. Thomas then went and showered and met up with the rest of the Gladers in another room. He was surprised and happy to see all of them there, and they were to see him as well, but he noticed that their faces showed that they had been through a lot during this time as well. The Rat Man then told them that they were going to get their memories back. He told them that they had a choice, and Thomas Minho and Newt decided not too, while the others wanted them back. After awhile though, the Rat Man came and told them they had to get them back and that their was no choice. Thomas Newt and Minho all tried to devise a plan while waiting, in order to escape. Their plan didn't work though, and they were going to be forced to get them back. They tried to attack the guards, but couldn't quite get their launchers away from them. The Rat Man then said that he had enough and wanted Thomas to go in first to get his memories back. The Rat Man had asked for Brenda to assist the doctors so that Thomas may go easier. Thomas then asked Brenda why she was doing this and she told him to trust her. She then was about ready to inject a substance into Thomas that would make him pass out, but winked at Thomas. He knew that she was on his side. She "accidentally" tripped and stuck it into they guy's arm that was holding Thomas down. He then passed out and Thomas and Brenda had ahold of the guards and their launchers. They then went to go find Newt and Minho. When they did, they got the launchers from the other guards and now they all had weapons. Their plan was to save the rest of the Gladers and fly out of the facility in a berg that Jorge could fly. The rest of the Gladers were gone though, and had left those five behind. They didn't know why, but knew something was off. They then made their way to the hangar and found Jorge lying there. He was concious but not moving. He then got up and told them what had happened. He had asked the rest to wait and explain what was going to happen, but Teresa hit him in the head and knocked him out. Then when they were about to leave, a bunch of guards came in and started firing at them. They ran towards the berg, firing back but Brenda got hit by one of the grenades that shocks people, but doesnt kill them. Thomas helped her to the berg but then was hit himself. He couldn't move, but knew that Newt and Minho would help him. When they got him onto the berg, he closed his eyes and passed out.

WICKED challenges them by putting them into a desert full of cranks and other crazy people. All of the Gladers have to fight there way through to try and get the cure for their disease that WICKED infected them with. The only thing he does know, is that he has to get the cure, or he will die.
II. Literary Elements
A. Narrator-Third Person. "She spoke to him before the world fell apart." p.1
B. Protagonist-Thomas. He is technically the leader of the Gladers and tries his best to help everybody in any way he can. He never goes down without a fight, and is always the first person to stick up for what he believes in. "He ran forward on instinct, pushing past several Gladers who seemed frozen by fear, moving toward the inhuman sounds."p.74
C. Antagonist-WICKED. They are the "government" that put all of this together after the scorch. They are responsible for everything happening to these people. "Thomas tried to hold it together, tried not to think about how WICKED could wipe memories." p. 356-357
D. Setting-"In front of him, a flat pan of dry and lifeless earth stretched as far as he could see. Not a single tree. Not a bush. No hills or valleys. Just and orange-yellow sea of dust and rocks; wavering currents of heated air boiled on the horizon like steam, floating upward, as if any life out there were melting toward the cloudless and pale blue sky." p.95 The mood created is that it is very hot and uncomfortable where they are at, and that it may be hard to survive in.

III.Reflection- I liked this book alot because it was very interesting and really tied into the first one. It definitely reminded me of The Maze Runner because all of the people in this book were exactly how they were in the first, and the author did a great job of incorporating other people in this book along with them. It would make a great movie because it has all of the elements of a good story and plot line and I think many people would love to see this book in action. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys books like The Maze Runner or Enclave or The Hunger Games. It did end the way I expected because I figured that their would be yet another trial.

Charlie, Sam, and Patrick tried spending a lot of time together before Sam left for college at the beginning of the summer. It was the day of graduation and all of Charlie's cousins came to watch his sister. After graduation was over and all of Charlie's family left, Charlie got to go over to Sam and Patrick's house. Patrick went o bed early, and Sam asked Charlie to stay and help her pack a few things. While sitting in Sam's room, Charlie professed his love and thoughts for Sam, and Sam did the same in return. They ended up making out for awhile. The next day, Sam left for college, and all her friends came to say goodbye. Once Sam left, Charlie was very lonely. He ended up in the hospital for two months. Then, the day he had gotten released was the day Sam was coming back. All Charlie could think about was going to the Big Boy with Sam and Patrick and driving through tunnels. Overall, Charlie had a grand time with his friends. Though he still doesn't know anyone, he isn't scared for his sophomore year at all. Charlie is just thankful for the wonderful friends that he still has.
The Scorch Trials 252-351
Thomas and the rest of the Gladers set out on the last few hours they had to hopefully find the Glade. After walking for awhile, they saw a girl out in the middle of nowhere. It was Teresa. She had a spear. Then all of a sudden a whole bunch more came, group B, and they took Thomas. They threatened the Gladers with bows and spears and beings nobody wanted Thomas hurt, they didn't do anything to keep him. Thomas didn't know if he should trust Teresa, but he knew that she had said something bad would happen and that he needed to trust her so he did. They drug him all the way and up into the mountains. Teresa beat the crap out of him every time he tried to talk, and really looked like she actually wanted to kill him. Thomas didn't want to trust her any more, but didn't know what else he could do. Teresa then left to group to see if the Gladers were following, and then Thomas convinced the other girls not to kill him and to let him go. When Teresa came back, they told her and she left on her own, acting seriously pissed. Then Thomas and Group B left, trying to catch up to the Gladers. On their way, Teresa and Aris were in the woods and told Thomas to follow. He went against his instincts and did however. They then led him to a cave and made him believe that they had been in this together all along and that they were going to kill Thomas. It was all just a part of WICKED's plan however, and they didn't. Thomas still knew though, that nothing would be the same between him and Teresa ever again. He could never fully trust her again. After they had let Thomas go, the three of them headed to try and catch the others. All the while Teresa saying sorry and trying to explain things to Thomas. After awhile longer, when they had only an hour to reach the Safe Haven, they reached a stick in the ground with a flag on it that said safe haven. Confused, they sat around and waited to see if something would happen. Something did eventually happen and the ground began to split apart at their feet with huge egg looking things made out of metal erupting from it. In these cases, were monsters that had bulbs on them. Their was about one monster per person, so they knew they had a slim chance to live. They soon began to fight them and realized they had to break all of the bulbs on them to kill them. After killing all of the monsters and a few others dying, a storm broke out. Lightning began to strike and Thomas and Teresa and Brenda and Jorge took cover in one of the big cases. When they only had a minute left, they were wondering if they were missing something outside. Sure enough, they lifted the cover off of the capsule and a huge helicopter looking thing came down and people were jumping on it. Then all four of them began to make a run for it, and barely made it. They all did though, hoping that was the last thing they would ever have to do for these WICKED people.

This Dark Endeavor 40-140
After Victor and Konrads fencing match Konrad fell deathly ill and had a very high fever. He had to lay in his bed because he felt weak. Many doctors came and gone trying to cure him but they could not. It started to look very hopeless so Victor, Elizabeth, and Henry decided they would take this into their own hands and try to cure Konrad with things they could find in the Dark Library. Victor asked one of his maids who deeply cared for Konrad if she knew anybody who could decipher the book where the potion of life was in. It was in some language they were not able to understand. There was a man in town who cured the Generals daughter but she became ill again and he was threatened to be killed but got away. They go into town to find the man with Victors father who was going to pick up some things and did not know what they were doing. They find his home in a run down alley and he answered the door a man named Polidori who was in a wheel-chair. They asked if he could do this but he said he could not without a book that had the Maji alphabet in it which they also had. He restored the book and got many texts and the ingredients to the potion of life. The first thing they needed was a spore on top of a tree that glowed in the dark and was same color of the bark. He gave them all a potion that would help them see in the dark. Later that night they went out into the dark and Elizabeth and Victor each took the potion and could see everything perfect and found a tree to climb. They started climbing it and a Griffon nest was in the tree and they feared it would try to attack them. They climbed to the top and Elizabeth started gathering the spores into a vial and needed to hurry because three Griffons were on them. They tried to fight them off as they climbed down and Elizabeth bit one in the neck. Then Polidori's Lynx came to the rescue and killed the other ones. They were a the bottom and put the ingredients in the Lynx pouch and sent him off. They went back the next day to get their next ingredient. That next day though Konrad was up and going and was feeling good. They said it might come back. He wanted to help them get the potion too. Victor saw Konrad with Elizabeth playing the piano. He saw the way he touched her hair and stuff and thats when he realized he was in love with Elizabeth.

The Scorch Trials 152-251
Thomas talked it over with Jorge and he decided to help him and the rest of the Gladers try and get to the cure. He figured if he helped them then he could get it too. He then decided that only him and one other person, Brenda, would go with them to try and help them. They then all had a meeting in another building to discuss the plans. The building then started to fall to pieces out of nowhere, nobody knowing what is happening. Thomas is then cut off from the rest of the Gladers and has to follow Brenda. He follows her down below the city into tunnels that she has explored before. They are afraid that somebody is chasing them so they keep running until they are halfway to the other side of the town. They then walk for awhile, but here a noise and think somebody actually is following them. When they turn around they see a Crank. He is missing most of his skin on his face and is looking at them crazily. He then tells them that he wants a new nose because his is gone and they begin to run. A bunch of other Cranks then appeared and began to follow them. Brenda led Thomas to a secret passage that had a little cubby hole in it that she thought the Cranks would never find. They did however, and Thomas ended up killing one of the Cranks. They then left and hid in an old truck. While there, they talked for awhile and then Thomas left with Brenda following him. They then ran into some other Cranks that weren't as far gone as the last ones, so they actually talked to them. They then forced Thomas and Brenda to go inside the party they were having them, and one had a gun holding it to Thomas's back. Once inside, they forced them to drink a drugged drink and Thomas and Brenda both passed out. Before then though, Brenda wanted Thomas to kiss her, but he didn't, telling Brenda that she would never be Teresa, and then he passed out. When he awoke, him and Teresa were taped down to chairs. Thomas then explained everything to the Cranks and when they about cut him loose, they heard noise upstairs so ran up there. A few minutes later, the sounds discontinued and somebody came downstairs to Thomas and Brenda. It was Minho. He then cut them loose and they followed him upstairs. It was daytime now, and they went outside and the Crank with the gun shot Thomas in the shoulder. It then got infected, but the people from WICKED saved Thomas and fixed his shoulder, then returning him back to the place where he had been. Thomas had overheard that the gun was not a variable they were counting on, so they saved him in order for him to survive and lead the rest of the people. When he got back he explained everything to everyone else. They then went to bed knowing they had a long, five day walk ahead of them to get over the mountains. When Thomas fell asleep, Teresa for the first time in a long time, spoke to him. She told him that something horrible would happen to him tomorrow, but that he shouldn't try talking to her and the he wouldn't talk to her until they were together again. Thomas wanted to say something, anything, but she slipped away, leaving him empty once more.
Insurgent 425-525
Beatrice makes the decision to help Marcus instead of Tobias. Marcus drives Beatrice and Christina to Amity headquarters. Once they get there, Beatrice explains to Johanna what their plan is and what will be going on in the city during this time. Johanna then calls a meeting of everyone in the compound. She tells everyone about what will be happening and asks for them to discuss entering the city as peacekeepers to try to prevent the slaughter of Erudite. The majority of Amity decides that they want to stay in their compound and not get involved. Johanna goes against this decision and in doing so, loses her spot as an Amity representative. The Abnegation and the Erudite that were in Amity join with a few Amity that were willing to go in the city. The attack that the Dauntless and factionless were going to start was to be that afternoon, so they head into the city in the morning, to find that the gate was unguarded. They are fearful that the attack has begun early. They reach the Erudite headquarters to find that it is heavily guarded by Candor people under a simulation. Beatrice, Cara, a former Erudite, and Marcus split up from the rest of the group to find the information as the rest help with the wounded. Beatrice discovers that the Candor only respond to motion, so she decides that they can go in a building beside the compound and get in through the windows above them. This works with only one casualty. Then Cara, Beatrice, and Marcus discover that the attack has begun on the lower levels and head upstairs. They reach the control room and search for the information. The door opens and it is Caleb. He tries to stop them but it unsuccessful. Beatrice remembered what Tori said about the information being kept on a private computer, so they head up to Jeanine's laboratory, which is heavily guarded. After another confrontation, only Beatrice and Marcus are left to find the information. They decide to split up. Beatrice goes into a room that turns into a simulation. She is back in the Dauntless compound fighting herself. She beats the simulation with little time to spare before she would end up dying. She heads into the next room to find Tori about ready to kill Jeanine. Beatrice and Tori get into a fight, but then Tori ends up killing Jeanine before Beatrice can do anything about it. Then Tobias and Uriah come into the room and believe that she is a traitor. They take her to the lobby with the other war criminals. Then Tobias takes Caleb to disarm the security system for the laboratory. As a Dauntless leader, Tori tells everyone that a new political system to be put in place. Once she's done, Beatrice realizes the all the factionless have guns, which were taken from the Dauntless. Evelyn then stands in front of the crowd to tell everyone that the faction system will be destroyed and that it will be hard to resist without any guns. Tobias then comes back, and all the working screens in the lobby turn on, with a message; the information that was supposed to be a secret. A woman comes on the screen and explains who she is and why she is doing this. Pictures of places and actions similar to the Holocaust appear and then the woman explains that this is happening around the world. This city, Chicago, was chosen to be separated from the world to try to find what it takes to be at peace and rediscover the moral sense that so many others have lost. She left the video for them so that they will know when to help the rest of the world. They were waiting for an abundance of people in this group whose minds were more flexible than others and these people would be called Divergent. Then the woman explains that she will join them in the city and to prove this, she tells them that her new name will be Edith Prior; Beatrice's mother.

Scorch Trials 52-151
Once they passed through the deal to start Phase Two, everything was dark. They began to walk down a long hallway for miles. At one point, they heard one of the Gladers screaming. Thomas ran up to him to find nothing but a ball for his head with blood on it. The ball then rolled off of the body and ran into the wall being stopped. Everybody was in ah..not being able to see anything and just hearing screams. Thomas had no idea what had happened but knew they had to keep moving. As they did they finally reached some stairs. At the top of the stairs was a door. When opened, a huge beam of sunlight and blast of heat came into the hallway. Outside was nothing but a vast desert. All of the Gladers put sheets around themselves that they were carrying food in and stuck the food elsewhere. Once out and about, they noticed a town in the far distance. They figured it was probably a few days walk, but figured they could make it. When it became dark, they would rest and sleep for a few hours and then continue to walk. They would eat and drink little water, in order to conserve as much as possible. When they were about halfway to the town, a little shack appeared in the distance. They noticed that a girl was standing outside of it. Thomas knew it was Teresa. He told the others he would go check it out himself. As he did so, he realized it was indeed her. She was clean and beautiful, which is what Thomas wasn't really expecting. He knew then though, that they making her do things for them, for WICKED. As Thomas went inside the building, Teresa told him to stay back. He tried talking to her and getting her to explain but she just stared at him. Then all at once, she threw herself at him and kissed him. She then backed away and said he had to leave and run away. Thomas knew she was just trying to save them so as much as it hurt, he did what she said. They then kept moving on towards the town. Thomas explained things to Minho and Newt along the way. As they reached near the town, and enourmous lightning storm struck. It killed some of the Gladers and almost killed Minho. Thomas put the fire out in time though so it only burned some of his clothing. He then helped Minho get into the first building in the town. Once the storm fell to rest, the lasting eleven Gladers fell asleep in the building. When they awoke, Thomas noticed somebody up in the upper level of the building. That person, Jorge, then jumped down. He was a crank. Minho offended him so he kicked Minho in the shin and then they started fighting. Minho started beating the snot out of him and then Thomas threw him off in fear that there would be more to come help. Sure enough, more Cranks jumped down from the upper floors. Then Thomas convinced the head Crank, Jorge, to have a talk. Thomas thought this might be the last chance any of them have, and the last conversation he may ever have.

Insurgent 316-425
Without consulting anyone else, Tris decides that it is her
that will go to Erudite headquarters, even though she knows she will likely die
there. When she gets there, Peter escorts her to her sleeping room. The next
morning, Jeanine takes her to the room where they will run tests on her and
where she will be executed. These tests are to help learn about the Divergent
brain and to help invent simulations that will work on Divergent. Shortly after
that, Tris is taken to another room where they will take an MRI of the brain.
Before this happens though, Tris and Jeanine make an agreement that Tris will
cooperate with the tests only if she knows why they are doing them and if she
can see the results. When they are heading back to her room from the MRI, Tris
and Peter run into Tobias. They only get to see each other for a minute before
they are separated again. Another day passes before Tris is taken to another
room, where she is given another serum that she breaks free of. Next, she is
escorted the her execution room, where she meets up with a wounded Tobias.
Jeanine's plan is to put a fear simulation in Tris and it will stop when Tobias
gives Jeanine information about the factionless safe houses. Her plan works.
Jeanine tells Tris that Caleb has been helping her in her studies. Then, the
next morning, Tris and Tobias meet up again in a hallway both guarded by
Dauntless. Tobias goes into attack mode and kills all of the surrounding
Dauntless. Tobias takes Tris to a control room door, then takes her into a
supply closet to hide. He tells her that her execution is two weeks from now
and on that day the factionless, loyal Dauntless, and some Abnegation will
storm the compound and destroy the control room, where all of Erudite's
information is kept. Caleb and Tris get into a heated argument after Tris
awakes. Tris is then put into another simulation without her knowing it. She
breaks out of this one also. Jeanine threatens to kill Tris out of frustration
and then Tris attacks Jeanine, only to be stopped by Peter. Later that day, Tris
is told that her execution got moved ahead to the next morning. That morning
she heads to the execution room and sees Tobias one last time. Jeanine injects
her with a serum and the heart monitor stops beeping. Tris is still awake
though, when Peter carries her out of the room. He meets up with Tobias to tell
him that she is momentarily paralyzed and to explain his plan to get out of the
Erudite compound. Once Tris is mobile, they escape the compound through the
trash incinerator. They run away from the compound for a ways and then stop in
an empty building. They wait there for a couple hours then head to the
Abnegation part of the city. They meet up with Tori, Harrison, and Evelyn in
the Eaton house. After awhile of just sitting around talking, Tris goes to the
Abnegation headquarters, where Marcus follows her. He informs her that her
mother knew that secret information that he was keeping from Johanna at Amity,
and that she was willing to die to try to make that information public. Tris
goes back to the Eaton house where everyone, factionless and Dauntless are
gathered to go over the plan to destroy Erudite's information, which would
include that secret information that Marcus knows. Tris now has to decide
whether to work with Tobias to destroy that information, or to help Marcus to
try to make the information public.

Insurgent 216-316
After the attack, Jack Kang brings everyone to a meeting where the Divergent step out and reveal themselves. Marcus is among the ones who step out. After that is done, Jack decides that they can't attack the Erudite and will arrange a peace agreement with Jeanine Matthews. Later that day Tris spots Tori and Zeke coming towards the compound. Zeke is carrying the wounded Tori. Tris stops Dauntless guards from shooting them and she helps Tori out. Zeke tells them that Tori got shot because the Dauntless traitors found out that they were spies. They tell them that they became spies because they were surrounded by Dauntless traitors were the simulation ended and they just went along with them. They wait for Tobias to get back from gathering information about the meeting between Jack and Jeanine before they leave to go spy on the meeting. Tobias finds out that they will be meeting on a bridge between the compounds in two days and that Jeanine will be sending a representative instead of going herself. During those two days, Tobias becomes tired of people calling him a coward because he ran away from his father. After a Dauntless calls him a coward during lunch, he finds Marcus and beats him up in front of everyone. Now, it is time to spy on the meeting. The group hides underneath the bridge and waits for the representative from Erudite. Jeanine sends Max to the meeting. Max informs Jack that it will not be a negotiation because they aren't on even footing. He tells Jack to return the Dauntless leader they have in captivity unharmed, to allow the compound to be searched by Erudite soldiers to find the Divergent, and to provide the Erudite with the names of people who did not get injected with the simulation serum. Tris figures out that Max has an earpiece in and that Jeanine is telling him what to say from a glass building. Tris and a couple others start to head toward the building as Lynn shoots Max. They get to the building and see Jeanine and Peter running into an alley. They chase them for a little bit until Peter stops them. They head back to the Candor headquarters. Once they get back, all the Dauntless gather together to discuss what happened and what to do. They decide that they can't stay at Candor any longer and that they need to elect leaders. They nominate Tris, Tobias, Tori, and Harrison, an older Dauntless. Tris denies her nomination so that they wouldn't have to vote for the three leaders. Before they leave to head back to the Dauntless compound, they find Eric, interrogate him, and kill him. Once they get to Dauntless headquarters, everyone splits up to paintball all the cameras so the Erudite can't see them. Once that is over, Tris and Tobias get on a train to have a meeting with Evelyn. The two decide to make an alliance between the Dauntless and the factionless. Early the next morning, Christina wakes Tris to show her something. They head to the roof of the compound to find Marlene, Hector, and a young Dauntless standing on the ledge of the roof. They are in the simulation. They tell Tris that every two days until one of the Divergent goes to Erudite headquarters, this is happen again. After the message, the three of them step off the ledge. Tris was quick enough to save Hector, but the other two fell to their death. Later that day, the Dauntless discuss what they should do about the situation at hand.

The Death Cure 265-325
Thomas said he needed time to be alone and think things through. They put him in a room all by himself and he thought about the procedure. He thought about his friends and the friends he has seen die. He asked the lady if he could eat steak and all these other things for one last meal and she said the best they can do is a couple of sandwiches. He hoped his friends and Right Arm were going to make it in time to stop this procedure. Janson the Rat Man came into the room telling him that it was time and they needed to hurry. They put him on the bed and gave him a sedative to calm his nerves and then he heard an explosion and realized his friends were breaking into the building. The doctor said they needed to hurry and do the procedure before they got to them. Thomas tried talking to them but no words came out of his mouth because of the drugs. They put him completely under and Thomas passed out thinking this was it the last time he would be alive. In the darkness of his own mind he realized he was asleep still and that meant he must not be dead. He woke up to someone calling his name. There was a folder laying next to his bed with a letter from Chancellor Page saying they had everything they needed and did not need to kill Thomas in order to finish the blue print. She gave him a map of the facility and told him to gather up all the immunes and escape through the back door of the facility and lead a happy life. On his way to find his friends he is jumped by Janson and another man hell bent on wanting to finish the procedure. They hold him down and Thomas waits for the perfect time to get lose and he does and takes the knife away from Janson. He tells how they made him a killer and how he could kill both of them. He throws the knife at the other guy and lands right in his neck killing him and Thomas runs off Janson following him. He reaches Right Arm guards and they tell Janson to leave so he does. He tells Minho and Gally the plan to save the rest of the Immunes who were in the Maze. They all agree to help along with Teresa, Brenda, Jorge, and Aris. They get into the Maze and run to the Glade and gather the 500 people into groups each lead by people who have been in the Maze before and they run for the Griever hole to escape. They get there and inside Grievers were starting to activate but Thomas kills all except one before they get out of their pods. They kill the last one and escape into the maintenance room where the back door was. Janson was waiting for them and they all fight them and kill both of them but Teresa gets crushed by rock falling from the building collapsing and dies. They escape through the flat trans to a distant place away from everyone. They burn the building and the flat trans and start to rebuild humanity.

The Death Cure 165-265
After Thomas's friends find him they see what happened to the bounty hunter and Thomas doesnt tell them about how the Rat Man tried to talk to him about coming back to WICKED. They decide to go back to the Berg and check up on Newt and see how he was doing. They notice that less and less people are walking around the city and it makes them feel uneasy. They get to the berg and Newt is nowhere to be found. They search the ship and find a note that says he left with other Cranks to live in the Crank city not far from Denver. Thomas and his friends decide to go after him and try to get him to join with them again. They fly the berg to the crank city and touch down where two guards were waiting. They asked what they were doing here and Thomas told them they were looking for their friend who came through here. The guards asked if they had a death wish coming to this city. Jorge then told them that he would pay them 3000 dollars to escort them through the cities and they agreed. They walk through the city witnessing how horrible it is. They go to the old bowling alley where they found Newt sitting with a launcher in his hand. Thomas goes up to talk to him but Newt tells them to leave. Thomas tries reasoning with him but he sees the wildness in Newt's eyes. After a fight broke out and Newt pointed a launcher in Thomas's face they leave Newt behind. They make a run for the berg being chases by Cranks and took off to go back to Denver. When they arrived things seemed even quieter than normal. People met them in the street and told them to get into the van with bags over their heads and were taken to a building. Other people where in this building captured and Thomas meets up with Teresa and Aris there and asked how they escaped from WICKED. Then they decided to get answers of why all these people where here. They took one guys pistol and interogated them. They said they worked for Right Arm the people who Thomas was helping. Confused they wanted to go see who was in charge and one man named Lawrence took Brenda and Thomas to the building in a van where the people in charge were. After driving through crank infested streets they arrived to the building and Vince and Gally were there. They told him the plan on how they were going to invade WICKED and all they needed was Thomas to get into the base and set off a weapon they developed that would shut down all of WICKED's weapons. He agreed and so Lawrence, Thomas, and a pilot headed toward a berg to drop Thomas out in the woods where he would go into the WICKED facility to act like he was coming back to finish the tests. On their way out there they went by some cranks fighting in the street and Thomas saw Newt. He remembered what the note said that Newt wrote how he wanted him to kill him. He went out there and tried to get Newt to come with but he was to far gone and just wanted Thomas to kill him so he did. They get to the Berg and drop Thomas into the woods. He makes it to WICKED and goes to the door where Rat Man was there to greet him. They talked about what needed to be done and Thomas went into the bathroom to set the weapon. He goes into the office where Rat Man said the final thing they need to do is gather a piece of brain tissue from Thomas's brain and this procedure would kill him. He agreed to do it.

The Scorch Trials 1-51
Thomas woke up to Teresa calling him in his head. They talked for awhile, wondering what was going to happen the next day, and then went back to bed. Later, while Thomas was dreaming, he thought he heard Teresa yelling his name, but couldn't shake his deep sleep. She kept yelling Thomas and that something was wrong and help, but still Thomas could not wake up. When he finally did, he couldn't believe his eyes. Everybody was running around crazy. Their were bars on the windows and people outside with the "disease" and Thomas asked Minho what was going on. He told him that they all just woke up and it was like this. People were climbing on the windows yelling, "Kill Me!" and their was no sign of the people who saved them the day before. All of the Gladers realized the diseases people couldn't get in cause of the bars, but knew they had to do something. Thomas then remembered Teresa had asked for help and he tried calling to her, but heard nothing. He then told the others that something was wrong with Teresa, and they agreed to try and help find her. The only door leading outside was locked and chained from the inside, so they couldn't get out that way and didn't know how anybody could have gotten out, even the people who saved them. Thomas then went over to the door that led to the commons area where they had eaten the night before. That door was locked too, but not chained. Minho grabbed a fire extinguisher and hit the door knob till it gave. Once it did they stumbled into the dark commons area trying to find the lights. When Newt found the switches he turned them on. What they saw shocked them. Everybody who had saved them the night before, were hanging from the ceiling, dead. They had no idea how this was possible. Thomas then remembered he still had to get to Teresa. The only other door was hers, on the other side of the commons are, where she had slept. He then took the fire extinguisher and knocked her door knob off too. He bursted into the room and found nothing, but her unmade bed. He then though, heard the toilet flush and was excited that she was still there, but he tried calling to her and there was nothing. The door then opened and a boy came out. They didn't know who the boy was, but made him talk. They wanted to know everything about him. He had told them that he was from a maze too, but in his he was the only boy, and the rest were girls. All of the Gladers then knew that he was another experiment. Thomas then asked him if he could speak with one of the girls telepathically, and he said yes. Then they tried it and they could hear eachother. In Thomas's head, the boy told him that they had killed the girl who he had telepathy with, and the boy began to cry. After that, a loud siren went off and the lights in the common are were off. When Minho turned them back on, all of the dead, hanging, bodies were gone. They had no idea how this was possible because nobody could have had time to do that, let alone get in this building and lock it all back up without them knowing. They then went back over to where they had slept and everything was proper again. The windows even had brick over them instead of bars. They then knew that something was going on and this was some sort of game. Their next test. So then Thomas went and laid down and slept, trying to call to Teresa. He then heard an answer that he did not want to hear. It was her, but it wasn't. She said that she didn't know who this was talking to her and for him to leave her alone and get out of her head. Thomas then asked her questions about what was going on and why she didn't know him, but she just told him to leave her alone or she'd kill him. Thomas then somehow fell asleep. He awoke to Newt giving him an apple. He asked where he had gotten it from, and Newt said that a whole bunch of food suddenly appeared in the commons area, along with another thing. Interested, and pushing all other thoughts of Teresa aside, Thomas went into the room. He saw that there was a man in a white suit sitting at a desk, reading a book. Thomas then asked everyone who he was, but they said he said that they would tell him when he was ready. Then Thomas approached the desk, but ran into an invisible, glass wall. The others said that they tried that and tried knocking on it. Thomas didn't know how this was possible, but he wanted answers. He knocked on the "glass" and the man in the white suit put down his book saying, "how many times do I have to tell you, we still have forty-seven minutes before I have to implement Phase Two of the Trials."

The Maze Runner Book Review
Book Title: The Maze Runner
Author: James Dashner
Year of Publication: 2009
Number of Pages: 374
I. Plot Summary-A bunch of kids ages 10-17 are in a maze. They have no idea how they got there or how to get out. They started a civilization there called the Glade. Their memories are faint about their lives before now. Thomas shows up there and people start wondering what is going on. After Thomas shows up, a girl shows up as well. She is the first girl ever to show up in the Glade, and tells them she triggered the ending. They have no idea what this means, but hope that they can figure it out. Once everything in the maze starts to change, they all realize that the only thing they can do, is go into the maze and find a way out.
II. Literary Elements
A. Narrator-Third Person, "My name is Thomas, he thought."p.1
B. Protagonist- Thomas- He is the person in the Glade that feels like he knows why he's there and then is the one to figure out how to get out. "And yet he didn't know where he came from, or how he'd gotten inside the dark lift, or who his parents were." p.2
C. Antagonist-The Creators, The Grievers- The Creators are the people who created the maze and put the kids in there. The Grieves are the monsters that try and keep the Gladers from escaping. "Just like the little lizardlike machines that spy on us for the Creators-the people who sent us here." p.237 "Well he has been through the Changing-Griever stung him in the middle of the day just outside the West Door."p.226
D. Setting- Usually in the Glade, it is sunny and always perfect weather. Once the "ending" starts though, the whole maze just turns gray. "Looks like a big gray ceiling-close enough you could almost touch it."p. 298
E. Conflict- Man vs. Nature- Gladers vs Grievers and Gladers vs Creators. "The Griever came to life, spikes popping out its skin; it rolled forward, ready to collide head-on with its foe." p. 134 "The Creators Minho said; then he spat on the floor. Im gonna break your faces!" p. 352
F. Theme- Don't ever give up. No matter what happens, things can always get better. "Over two years and so few dead. Amazing." p. 353
III. Reflection- I liked this book very much because it was very interesting and not a type of book that their are a lot of. It somewhat reminded me of the Enclave and Outpost because of the people being in their own societies when the world all goes to crap. It would make a great movie because it has a great story for a movie. They actually are making it into a movie. I believe its supposed to come out in 2014. I would recommend the book to anybody who likes the Enclave series or Hunger Game series. It did, in a way, end the way i expected it to. I don't wish it would have ended differently because their are sequels to it.
