The Indigo Notebook 101-200

Wendell finds out from Taita Silvio and Mamita Luz that there was a lady who lived there around sixteen years ago who was pregnant, and then she died. They figure out that it was Wendell’s mom. Taita Silvio looks so much like Wendell, that he thinks Taita has to be his dad. He asks, but Taita Silvio denies it. Wendell asks him if he has any brothers, and he says no again. Layla keeps getting more and more “normal.” She gets a TV and starts to become more and more boring in Zeeta’s eyes. All Zeeta’s ever wanted is a normal mom, but she can’t stand this new boring mom. When walking around the village with Eva, Odelia, and Isabel, (Three village children), they come across a house that the girls are scared of. They say the man that lives there, Faustino, sold his soul to the devil. They also say that man is Taita Silvio’s brother. Wendell and Zeeta are shocked because Taita Silvio told them he didn’t have a brother. They also think this man is Wendell’s father. On the way home from this trip to the village, Zeeta and Wendell were about to board the bus, but Wendell insists that they don’t. He starts acting really weird, so they get on the next bus. On the way home, they see the bus that they didn’t get on. It was wrecked on the side of the road. Three people died in the accident. Wendell tells Zeeta that he has these “feelings.” He’s always had them, and he wants to get rid of them. Taita Silvio’s also a fortune teller, so Wendell wants to ask him how to use his powers. Wendell and Zeeta cautiously go to Faustino’s house because they want to find out if he’s truly Wendell’s dad. Faustino tells them that he is Wendell’s dad, and that his mom died in a car wreck. Faustino used to beat her, and once he got really mad at her when they were in the car together, and he accidentally rolled the vehicle and killed her. Wendell is fascinated with Faustino, but Zeeta has a bad feeling about him.

The Indigo Notebook 1-100

Zeeta and her mom, Layla, move all over the world. Zeeta's fifteen years old, and she's lived in over a dozen countries. Layla's very flighty and free-spirited, and a little bit crazy. Now, they're moving to Ecuador. Zeeta's always wanted a "normal" life, and she sees her chance when Layla's talking to a "normal" guy on the plane. However, that's not the kind of guy Layla would ever go out with. When in Ecuador, Zeeta goes to the market and makes her first friend; Gaby. Gaby is a vendor at the market. Zeeta also meets Wendell; an awkward Ecuadorian-American boy who is on a quest to find his birth parents. He knows his parents are Ecuadorian, but he was adopted by a family in Colorado when he was just a baby. He wants Zeeta to help him find his parents. Zeeta agrees. Wendell also gives her a strange warning to "Be careful in the water." The next day, Layla and Zeeta go to a mystic waterfall where you can supposedly make wishes that will come true. Layla slips into the water in a bad spot, and nearly drowns. She changes at that point to a more responsible person. She meets up with the guy from the plane; Jeff, and quits being such a "free spirit." In the meantime, Wendell and Zeeta start to look for his birth parents in a neighboring village. They meet Mamita Luz and Taita Silvio. They're the "parents" of all the village children. They don't have any kids of their own, but all the village children love them. Wendell questions them to see if they know anything about his parents. They don't tell him much, but it seems like they're hiding something.

Shattering Glass pgs.101-215

The next pages of Shattering Glass Ronna and Young begin to date. They also continue with their goal to make Simon into a popular kid, and we learn the real reason they’re doing this is to make Simon be voted for class favorite. Simone does some digging around when he goes into the computers to change classes for Young, and learns Rob isn’t using his real last name, and they find that fishy. They use their chance and look in old newspapers to find Rob’s dad is in jail. When Young asks Rob what happened to his dad Rob says he died, and he was the best father ever. Young stopped questioning because he knew Rob couldn’t face the fact of what his father did. Simone starts doing things like messing up the bells so the high school can get out of school, and putting a cow in the lunchroom. He becomes the “class clown.” Then the realization is that Young hates Simone. He thinks Rob is pushing around Simone, and Simone is losing who he actually is, and is just becoming what Rob wants him to be. Simone likes Coop though, and since Coop needs and 18 on the ACT to get his scholarship, Simone gets a fake I.D., and takes it for him so he can get into college. One night Bob gets his class ring stolen. Young told him to press charges, but Rob said he couldn’t because he didn’t put up a fight. Which comes as a big surprise since Bob has an attitude of a “tough guy,” and normally wouldn’t let that happen. Simone begins seeing through the guys, and realizing that they’re not as tough and cool as they think they are, but he doesn’t say anything and goes along with what they tell him. Then Rob tells Young he has to break up with Ronna, so Simone can ask her to the favorites dance. This breaks Young’s heart, but since he doesn’t have a backbone when it comes to Rob, he goes out with the class tramp, and word gets to Ronna. She comes over to tell Young it’s over, and he tells her why he actually did that, but she still leaves because he chose Rob over her. It breaks his heart, and he tells her at a party he misses her, and starts crying. Ronna still won’t have anything of it, and goes to the favorites dance with Simone. At the favorites dance they announce the class favorites, and they all get an award. Coop-most athletic, Young-most likely to succeed, Bob-most handsome, Simone-wittiest, and Rob-class favorite. Rob figures out that Simone hacked into the computers and changed things around, so he tells them to go into their “meeting room,” which is basically the coach’s room. There Rob starts hurting Simone, and pushing him around. Then things really get out of hand. Simone starts telling everyone why Rob’s dad was in jail, which is that he molested Rob for almost half of his life, and his mom never did anything about it. Simone calls Rob out for “liking it.” He also basically tells everyone else their weak, pathetic, and fakes. The boys have enough and beat Simone to death. Coop tries to stop them, and ends up getting a blow to the knee, ending his whole football career. I really liked this book, and the way it was written.

Speak 101-198

Heather is the only person in the school that could kind of be considered Melinda’s friend, and Heather walks out on her. She wants to be in a popular clique, and Melinda’s dragging her down. Melinda still can’t seem to get her tree right that she’s been working on for art. She starts to go to this little closet as her safe haven. It’s in a place that no one ever goes to, so she can be alone in there. Melinda also finally tells the reader why she called the cops at that party. She was raped by IT. That’s how the book refers to him, anyway. His name is Andy Evans, and now he’s dating Melinda’s ex-best friend, Rachel. Rachel is just a freshman, and he’s a senior, so she thinks he’s the most wonderful thing in the world. Melinda sends her an anonymous note telling her that Andy raped someone, but she continues to go out with him. In the meantime, Heather tries to be Melinda’s friend again, but only because she needs help with something. For the first time all year, Melinda spoke up for herself, and refused to help Heather. She got stronger and braver every day. A few days later, she tried to confront Rachel and tell her why she called the cops at the party. When she told her, Rachel just got mad and said that Melinda was lying because she was jealous. On the last day of school, Melinda was cleaning out her little safe haven closet, and Andy walked in. He started beating her and tried to rape her again because she started a rumor that he was a rapist. She stopped him and called for help, and ended up being a hero at the end of the book. The very last line is Melinda telling her art teacher, Mr. Freeman, that she wants to talk about it with him.

Love Story pg 1-100

Love Story by Erich Segal is a really good book so far. It's kind of a cute story, but it is different than most love stories that you would hear of. Oliver is the man who is tough and also doesn't take anything that's tossed at him. He plays hockey for Harvard, and he likes to fight every chance he gets in the hockey game. Jennifer is not the kind of girl who everyone would be around because she is also tough, and is also like Oliver in a way. She goes to school at Radcliffe and Harvard is their rivalry. The only thing I don't get about this book is how both of them seem to hate each other, but then they're dating. They aren't the kind of people who would listen to someone if they said they were a horrible person and that they needed to change. They would just let it blow over. When Oliver first told Jennifer that he loved her, I thought it was really weird how she just said "I would say you were full of shit," and then she hung up. I seriously thought they were done with, because most relationships aren't that way. In fact, I don't know anyone or haven't heard anyone do this, or have dealt with this kind of a relationship. When Oliver sees Jennifer it went back to normal, which confused me for awhile, because I had thought it was over for the both of them. I guess that is just how some people like to go into relationships, they like to be in control, be the boss. It starts to change into a love story, where Oliver's father is wanting him to wait, and let things fall in place before he gets settled. He wants Oliver to finish off law school before he moves on and starts his new life. I can't wait to read more and find out what will happen next.

Speak 1-100

Speak starts with Melinda going back to school her freshman year. She’s always been the popular, fun-loving girl that everybody likes. This year, however, is a little different. Everybody hates her. All of her friends from last year won’t talk to her, and she never talks at all. She’s a complete social outcast because she busted a party. At the biggest party of the summer, she called the cops, and everyone hates her for it. Now she’s back to school, and she’s doing terribly. She has one friend, Heather. She’s doing badly in all of her classes, except art. In art, her subject for the year is “trees.” She has to figure out how to portray a tree realistically and artistically. The only thing she can tolerate in her school is her lab partner, David Petrakis. She thinks he’s interesting because he’s not afraid to argue with the teachers and get in trouble for it. He speaks his mind.

Shattering Glass pgs.1-100

In the first 100 pages of Shattering Glass we’re introduced to Simon Glass, the nerdy kid at school everyone hates for no logical reason. We’re also introduced to Coop, Young, Bob, and the leader of the crew: Rob. These guys are at the top of the popularity list, and Simon’s at the bottom. They start by Lance, the popular king until Rob knocked him off, bullying Simon. They think that, even though they hate him, it was really low. Rob decides he wants a challenge, and his challenge is to make Simon popular. They take Simon shopping; get him a whole new wardrobe, and a haircut. Then they take him to the beach to play volleyball, and Lance is there. Lance continues to be a jerk to Simon, but Simon brushes it off and laughs about it. They start to realize he could be known as the “funny one” of the group. He sits with them at lunch, and they continue to try and make him popular. The end of the 100 pages is at the homecoming dance. Young, the narrator of the book and Rob’s wingman, took his dream girl to the dance. They all hear of the surprise that’s going to happen, but no one knows yet. Throughout the book they drop hints that they murder Simon, so basically, I’m just waiting to see how they murder him, and who does it.

The Last Child pg 300-419

The Last Child was a really great book! I absolutely loved it! It was a very interesting book, and it kept me wanting to know more. I kept wanting to know what would happen next. This book made me sad to think that Johnny lost his sister, and how much of a drive he had to find out what had happened to her was amazing. I don't know many people who would go that far to find out what happened to their sibling. It is quite amazing what Johnny went through just to find out what happened to his sister. I think in going through what all he did, he brought peace to his family, with knowing what had happened. This book is full of twists and turns with everything that happens. It's really sad what Johnny had to go through. It tears me apart, because I know if something ever happened to me, I don't know if I could go through everything that he went through. He was a very strong boy, and his drive to find the answers was absolutely breath-taking!

Such a Pretty Girl 101-212

Andy ended up leaving for Iowa. Before he left, he gave Meredith his Virgin Mary statue for good luck. Sharon and Chuck left for the beach one day and left Meredith at home. They came home after ten that night and Meredith immediately said she was going to bed. Her father came and knocked on her bedroom door and told her that they were going to have a good day tomorrow. The next morning, Meredith woke up to her mom getting ready to leave for work. She went down to eat some breakfast in the kitchen, then her mom left. It was just her and her dad left in the kitchen, and they both know that they aren't suppose to be alone together. Her dad tried grabbing her but then she ran up to her room and closed the door. He was stronger than her so he got into her room. He tried pinning her against the bed, but she was fidgeting with her knife and ran across the room. She ended up throwing it in the door. After he went to go see what it was, Meredith took the statue Andy gave her and hit her dad on the head with it. All while this was happening, she made sure that her cameras were on before her mom had left, so everything that he tried to do, was on tape. Meredith doesn't know how it all ended for sure, but the cops came and arrested him. Meredith ended up having to stay at her grandma's house. While her and Nigel were on their way over there, Andy called Nigel. Meredith found out that Andy hadn't gone all the way to Iowa. The guy that they were going to meet had died. Andy and Meredith talked for awhile and then he told her they'd talk later. Meredith was at her grandma's house when she heard a knock, Meredith went to go see who it was. All she could about was how tall Andy was.

Shattering Glass 201-215

Glass hints to Young that he may have messed with the results of the popularity contest in the computer system. When the results come out, Rob ends up winning Class Favorite, and Glass ends up with Wittiest. Glass overrode the computer system so that every vote for him in the Favorite contest counted as a vote for Rob. Rob calls a meeting of Coop, Bob, Young, and Glass in his “office”, an empty closet. He gets really mad at Glass, not necessarily because he lost, but because he didn’t follow orders. Rob picks up a baseball bat, and hits Glass. Glass ends up saying something about the secret that he and Young were never going to talk about again. Rob was molested by his dad when he was younger. That’s why he hides his past. It went on for years. Rob just keeps getting more and more mad, and he ends up beating Glass with the bat to the point that it kills him. Coop ends up getting hit in the kneecap, and it ruins him, so he loses his football scholarship. Rob runs away from it, and goes south to Mexico or Texas. Young ends up getting blamed for it and going to prison, even though he was the one who didn’t even pick up a bat. He was too much of a follower, and he wouldn’t rat out any of his friends.

Shattering Glass 101-200

Glass was revealed as the guy in the Wolverine costume at the Homecoming. He ended up kissing the Homecoming queen, Blair Crews, and dancing with her. Rob was satisfied with himself because he came up with the whole idea. Coop takes the ACT, and he knows he has to get at least an 18 to play college football. Young and Ronna start to get a little more serious. Young even went to spend a day with Ronna’s family, and then they slept together. Rob came up with a new plan to see if Simon truly is popular. He want to get Glass elected as Class Favorite. Glass doesn’t act all too interested, but he doesn’t object, either. Since Coop was so worried about the ACT, Glass is going to take it for him. He made a fake ID and he’s going to pretend to be Coop. Young thinks it’s a bad idea, but Coop wants to pass so badly, he agrees. Glass and Young go to try to find out more about Rob’s past. They find something, but the book doesn’t say what it is. It just says they’ll never speak of it again. Rob convinces Young to break up with Ronna so Glass can take Ronna to the Favorites dance. In order for him to get class favorite, he has to have the best date there. Rob assures Young that he’ll be able to get her back when it’s all over with. However, he has to make the breakup seem real, and he can’t clue Ronna in. He went to “break up” with Ronna, and she broke down, so he told her the truth. That made her even more mad, and she said she’d never take him back. She couldn’t believe he would put this above her feelings. Also as part of the deal, Young now has to go out with the school slut, because Rob says so. Rob’s starting to get very demanding and controlling, and if anyone does something he doesn’t like, he freaks out. Glass passed the ACT for Coop, and he gets signed to play for TCU. They all go to the Favorites dance. Young ends up going by himself, and Ronna goes with Glass.

The Last Child 199-299

This book is so heartfelt, and I absolutely love it! It is probably my favorite book right now. Johnny is a really smart kid, and what he does to find his sister really astonishes me. This story is very compelling and it is really cool how much he cares to find his sister. Not every person would work as hard as Johnny does to find his sister. Not many people care as much as he does, which is sad, because that really isn't how it should be. It's really sad that some people don't care about their family as much as they should. Their family, not enemies. They should have the strength to go on and care a lot about their family. I know losing a family member can be hard, but if you lost someone close to you, wouldn't you care? They're apart of you. I think it's sad when people go through this, but I also know that it may be hard too. It can be hard, because it takes a lot of strength to cope with what Johnny and his mother went through. This book is really sad, because I keep thinking of his mother and how she lost her daughter. That's so terrible, no one would want that to happen to their kid. It makes me realize that life is hard, but sometimes when you have a hard time and you get knocked down, don't just stay there and whine, get up and make things better. Life isn't always easy, your going to have struggles and stresses in your life, so when it knocks you down, just get back up and brush yourself off!

If I Stay 101-200

In the next one hundred pages of If I Stay Mia is remembering Halloween and the time her and Adam went to one of his shows. Willow, one of the nurses, lets Adam come in and see Mia in the hospital. She then starts to remember the camp she went to in the summer the past years. It was to practice her cello. Brooke Vega then comes in to try and help him get into the ICU and see Mia. This plan didn't work out as planned. Soon she began to remember the day when her family talked about funerals. Her family didn't want the normal sad funerals, they wanted ones to represent them. In the end of these one hundred pages she still can't decide if she should stay or not, but she does know that her grandfather supports her decision no matter what.

Marcelo in the Real World pgs. 201-312

Jasmine invites Marcelo to go to Vermont with her, so he can clear his mind. He meets Jasmine’s father, who has dementia. He, at first, thinks it Jasmine’s late brother, and eventually realizes it’s her friend. One night when he’s visiting the neighbors come over. Jonah, the neighbor boy close to Jasmine’s age, wants to have a “heart to heart” with Marcelo. He basically tells Marcelo that he’s in love with Jasmine, but knows they won’t have anything. He thinks Jasmine is in love with Marcelo, this stupefies Marcelo to think that Jasmine likes him. Jasmine and he go camping, and take her dad’s stuff to his ice-fishing shack. They go canoeing and Marcelo thinks a lot about all the things involving Ixtel. Marcelo sleeps next to Jasmine that night, and he gets the “butterflies in your stomach” feeling, which he’s never had before. When Marcelo gets back he tells Wendall he won’t help him lure Jasmine to his boat to have sex with him. So, to be rude, Wendall gives Marcelo a note that Jasmine wrote her father. It suggests in the note that Marcelo’s father and Jasmine had sex in his office. Marcelo also rats out the window shield company for what they did to Ixtel. This caused the law office a lot of money, and Marcelo to get fired. Because he was fired he’ll have to go to Oak Ridge high in the fall, instead of attending Paterson again. At this point Marcelo is completely lost, he lost his ability to remember, and have IM’s. He also can’t remember the verses and where they are in the bible. He decides to give his father the note, and talks to Jasmine about it. Jasmine tells him it was just a kiss, and explains herself. He then tells Jasmine he wants to move out to Vermont. He can go to nursing school, and then help kids with autism work with horses.  He said he’d also help Jasmine’s father work on his farm. Marcelo then goes to visit Ixtel. Ixtel tells Marcelo her story, how she was living on the streets, sold her body, and did drugs. She then thanked him, and told him how she couldn’t express how thankful she was for the thing she had done for him. At the end of the book I can sense a feeling of peace inside Marcelo.

Shattering Glass 1-100

Simon Glass is a very unpopular student. He’s a nerd and everyone picks on him, especially Lance, who was the most popular guy in school. That is, until Rob transferred in. Pretty much everyone liked Rob. However, the reader gets the idea that Rob’s not as “perfect” as he’s made out to be. Rob rules the school, and he wants to see how much power he truly has. He wants to turn Glass into a popular guy with the help of his posse; Young, Coop, and Bob. Young, the narrator, is a really good, friendly guy. Coop has a tough home life, and he’s not real smart. He’s afraid he’s just going to turn into a jobless alcoholic like his dad. It doesn’t tell a whole lot about Bob, but you know that’s he’s quite the ladies’ man. They start to sit by Glass at lunch and take him shopping to get some decent clothes. They work with him so he can lose some weight, and they take him to the beach. Glass’s parents don’t really care about him that much, and he hardly ever sees them. Young has some troubles at home, too. He wants to take a creative writing class, but his dad is dead set on him becoming a doctor someday. Young nearly threw up dissecting frogs in class, and he doesn’t want to be a doctor, so he dropped biology class for a creative writing class. His dad, however, made him transfer back in. Young is upset about not being able to take his creative writing class, so Glass hacks into the school system to make it look, to Young’s dad, like he’s in biology, while he’s actually in creative writing. Young also has a huge crush on Ronna, one of the girls from his school. When hacking into the school system, Glass and Young found that Rob is not who he says he is. He told them his name was “Robert Haynes”, but in the school system, it’s “Robbert Baddeck”. He also told them when he moved there that he was from some out of state town, but the system said he transferred from a town a few miles down the road. Glass started to be the guy in the mascot outfit at football games, and people were really intrigued by him, but nobody knew who he was. They planned to “Unveil the Wolverine” at Homecoming, which Rob insists is the most important part of making Glass popular. Young ends up going to Homecoming with Ronna.

The Best of Me 261-292

Dawson had left his letter from Tuck on Tuck's workbench in the garage. Dawson decided to turn around and go back for it because it was something to remember Tuck by. As Dawson was turning into the Tuck's driveway, he felt that someone was watching him. He saw The Ghost. It was the dark haired man that he had saw from the explosion. He went running after him and Dawson felt that he was leading him somewhere. Once he got sort of close, he realized that it was Dr. Bonner, the guy that died in the accident. Dr. Bonner ended up leading him to Tidewater, which was a bar. Inside, Ted and Abee were beating up on Alan Bonner and Candy was locked in the manager's office. Dawson took care of Ted and Abee long enough to get Alan and take him out to an ambulance. Right as Dawson was going out the door, Ted took his gun and fired a round at Dawson because he wasn't about to let him get away again. Ted hit Dawson in the head and he died shortly after that. Amanda waited and waited to see what Dr. Mills had to say about Jared. Dr. Mills finally came out and said that Jared would have to have heart surgery in order to live. The Transplant Committee met and decided to find a donor for Jared. He had the surgery and it all went well. Amanda was the first to see him after the surgery, and Jared kept asking if he would ever be able to live a normal life again. Amanda told him he would, but he didn't believe her. All Amanda could think about was that Jared was going to be okay. Years later, Jared was at home living a normal life with his family. He went up to Amanda one day and asked who his donor was that donated his new heart. Amanda told him that it would remain confidential for various reasons. Amanda knew or had a very good idea of who that donor was. She thought of how God worked in cruel ways. A life for a life she would say. Dawson for Jared. She would always remember how Dawson told her once, "I gave you the best of me." To Amanda that meant everything because though she lost Dawson, she still kept her son, Jared.

Amanda feels like she is back in high school when she's with Dawson. She always wonders what her life would have been like if she would have stayed with Dawson. They both decided to turn around and head back to the cottage. Though Amanda is a married woman, she ended up having sex with Dawson. The next morning they woke up and discussed what was to come of their lives. They drove back to Tuck's house in Oriental. Nobody was there and this is where they said their goodbyes. When She Was Good 201-228

Em starts to really realize all the effects of Pamela’s passing. She finally lets the little girl that visits her garden, Lana, help her. She’s starting to become a less bitter person. She gets a job working at a store. She probably should hate her boss, Mr. Becker, because he makes her do things like getting him coffee. She likes him, though, because he gave her a job and that’s all she really wanted. She talks to Louise again and Louise tells her that she has two daughters that can’t stand her. Louise just can’t understand why Em wants to be her friend. Em talks to a guy, Warren. They like each other and they kind of hit it off. Louise apologizes to Em and they sort of become friends. It also tells how Pamela died. She had some sort of attack while she was just sitting in her chair, and she fell to the ground, shaking, and died.

The Last Child pg 98-198

The Last Child is a really great book! Johnny Merrimon is a really dedicated brother that is out to find the answers of his sister's disappearance. Johnny is a really good kid, and it's sad what he goes through. I think it would be terrible to go through what Johnny went through. It would be very hard for me to go through that. The thought of losing a brother or sister is devastating. Even though your brother or sister can be annoying at times, it would still be devastating to lose them forever. Once they're gone there is no getting them back. They're gone forever. The fact that Johnny went through this whole process is breath taking. I know I could never go through what he has gone through. It is quite scary to think of the fact that you lost your sibling to a very devastating event. Johnny is a very strong, tough boy that has a very willingness to find the truth about what had happened to his sister. Not many people would go through all of this just to find out what had happened to their brothers or sisters, but it is very breath taking what Johnny does to find out what had happened to his sister, Alyssa.

Marcelo in the Real World pgs. 101-200

In the next 100 pages of the book Marcelo stops working with Jasmine, and works with Wendall. For a while he’ll work part time with both of them, then eventually he’ll work full time with Wendall, because his father thinks that would be good for him. He then learns Wendall wants to use Marcelo. He wants Marcelo to invite Jasmine on his boat, so he can have sex with her. Marcelo recently learned, from the rabbi, that sex can be used to hurt people, and has a feeling that’s what Wendall is going to do to Jasmine. He also knows that if he doesn’t please Wendall, then Wendall will tell his father. If his father finds out he hasn’t succeeded, he could be forced to go to real high school next year. During this time Marcelo also find a picture of a girl with a very deformed face in the trash while he’s working for Wendall. He feels the need to learn more about this girl, so he consults Jasmine. Jasmine figures out what law firm the picture was taken at, and Marcelo goes to talk to the lawyer. The lawyer turns out to be a college friend of his father’s. He works in a poor part of town, and works with people who have had accidents. He tells Marcelo he sent his father a letter asking for the windshield company (since it was their windshield that wasn’t supposed to shatter that damaged her face) to cover the reconstructive surgery.  His father doesn’t agree to this, but Marcelo goes against his father’s rules, and decides he’s going to go meet the girl, Ixtel.

Water for Elephants 301-331

The day after Walter and Camel are thrown off the train, Jacob hears that Camel died right away and Walter’s legs were crushed, so he died too. That day at their performance, the animals in the menagerie all escape their cages. They’re all running crazy, and some of them go into the performance tent. Jacob is looking frantically for Marlena, and he finally sees her. As he spots her, he also sees Rosie pull up her stake that’s holding her to the ground, pick it up with her trunk, and stab August in the head, killing him. Jacob never told anyone about that in his whole life. Quite predictably, the ‘Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth’ went out of business. Another circus came to town and absorbed all of their things. Jacob and Marlena ended up with the eleven horses and Rosie. They got married and had kids. Rosie went to a zoo, and Jacob and Marlena worked for Ringling circus. Back in the present, Jacob sneaks out of the nursing home and goes to the circus. These pages start when Em is in her flashback. She’s remembering when she and Pamela ran away from their father and stepmother. Em held a lot of different jobs, and always got fired. Then, it goes back to the present. Em is living on her own. Em becomes fascinated with this woman that lives in her apartment. The woman looks sort of like her mother, so that’s probably why Em feels some sort of a connection to her. Em wants to make a garden in front of her apartment complex because her mother always gardened. Her landlord won’t let her put one in because he says if he lets one person have a garden, everyone would have to. He eventually lets her though, so she starts a garden. There’s a little girl that comes to visit her when she gardens, but Em doesn’t let her help at all because she thinks she’ll screw everything up. Em still doesn’t have a job and she’s constantly looking for one. Em goes up to see the Louise, the random lady that she feels a connection to. Louise just thinks she’s some sort of freak, but even so, Em keeps dreaming that they’ll become friends some day.

Someone Knows My Name 200-469

Fanta has had her baby and Aminata lets the people know. She meets a man name John Clarkson who takes good care of her and she tells him some of her story. Chekura still brings her food and they are still friends. They were taking Aminata and Fomba somewhere they did not know. They had just been walking for a long time. They meet people and Aminata explains to them what her and Fomba's village back home was like and how they treat the babies there. When Aminata got sick a woman named Georgia housed and took care of her and even though it killed Aminata not being able to go outside it was very helpful in making her get better. She was better in time for indigo harvesting and they went through more than one cycle of this. Aminata gave Chekura a yellow wrap she had received delivering a baby and Georgia said she should not give him anything at all. Robinson Appleby returned to their plantation in December and by that time Aminata was only three moons from having a baby. Appleby told her to throw her clothes in the fire or he would make it worse for her than it already was. Georgia just stood there without saying anything. Appleby cut all her hair off and shaved her head. Appleby told her that her baby belonged to him. She named her baby Mamadu after her father. Her husband Cherkura came back fourteen days after their son was born. Aminata woke up one night to her 10 month old baby crying but soon realized it was not next to her and Appleby had taken him and given him away to a man on a carriage. Georgia told her that her man may have been sold or hired out if he didn't come back but Aminata did not believe her. Soon after Appleby sold her to Solomon Lindo in Charles Town. She missed Chekura terribly and wanted to be with him. Mrs. Lindo seemed pleased to meet Aminata and that Mr. Lindo had said a lot about her. Aminata and Dolly walked about the town of Charles Town and Aminata tried  to get used to how different it was. A few months after she got there she helped deliver Dolly's son Samuel. She worked as a self-hire midwife for many years but she was sad she'd never got to see Georgia again. There was a British invasion that she got to experience also. She had been in Canvas Town where a lot had been going on with British activity. She told Colonel Baker she wanted to go to Nova Scotia. One evening she got asked by guards if she knew and man and it ended up being Chekura so of course she hugged him and was so happy to see him. Chekura worked with Aminata and they were happy to be together again. Aminata had said she trusted the British because they said they would protect her and they did. When she went to Nova Scotia she discovered it was colder than Charles Town. Aminata was pregnant again and her first winter in Nova Scotia disease struck their town. She named her daughter May after the month of her birth. After May's third birthday she told Aminata that someday they would go back to their homeland. One night she lost May and ran all over town screaming and looking for her but no one seemed to know where she was. She found out that the Witherspoon's had taken her daughter on a ship and didn't tell Aminata. Over the next four years she found out no information about May or where Chekura was. The only thing she had was her little cabin in Birchtown. Nova Scotia made a new colony named Freetown and many people were very happy. They could get all the slaves they wanted in Bance Island so there was no slave trade in Freetown. Finally Aminata thinks she may get the chance to return home after many years of waiting. But after they had gone for ahwile the man-stealers were planning to sell her so Aminata planned her escape. She escapes and stays with some people for awhile to get food and strength. Eventually she met up with her daughter May. May took her all around her home land and to the school where she taught. She has told her story and now is with May who has a husband and she is planning to have a baby.

She knew that she had problems with Frank. After the argument, Amanda went to go meet Dawson so they could ride up together so spread Tuck's ashes. Push pgs. 101-140

Throughout the pages I start to notice Precious is easier to understand, and is using a little bet better of spelling and grammar. She also says that she cuts her herself, and as she says “not trying to die, trying to plus myself back in.” Precious starts going to an incest support group. She can’t believe other people have had the same types of problems she has. She does counseling, and one day she takes back her file. In it says she’s made good progress, but it isn’t good enough to get her into a class to get her G.E.D. Abdul also gets tested for HIV, and isn’t positive. I start to see things looking up in Precious’s life, and can see the love she has for her baby.

The Last Child pg 1-97

The Last Child by John Hart is a really good book so far. Johnny Merrimon is the main character and he is a really smart boy. I think it is really sweet of him to take care of his mom, since she is devastated from the loss of her daughter, Alyssa. His father had left his family a little while after the disappearance of Alyssa. Clyde Lafayette Hunt was the cop that had been trying to help Johnny's family, and was also the one that promised Johnny that he would bring Alyssa back home after she disappeared. When Clyde never brought Alyssa back years later, Johnny had a plan. He was going to get on his bike, take a map with him, and go look for Alyssa. His ambition left him not caring if she was still alive, all he wanted to know was where she was and what had happened to her. This book is quite sad when you think about it, because who would ever want something so devastating to happen to them. This book is a really great book, and I can't wait to keep reading to find out what Johnny will find out.

Push pgs. 1-100

When the principal of the school Precious is going to finds out that Precious is pregnant again, she kicks her out of school. But she tells Precious about a school that can help her get a G.E.D, and teach her to read and write. She starts going there, and befriends the teacher, Miss Rain. When Precious has the baby she goes back to living at home, after she got out of the hospital. We learn throughout the story that her mother is abusive. One day Precious walks out with her baby, Abdul. She goes back to the hospital, and they turn her away. She then is taken to the armory, which she finds to be awful, and gets her bags and possessions stolen. She then goes to a ½ Way house. Throughout this team she continues writing letter to Miss Rain, and she eventually starts going back to the class. One day her mother comes to the ½ Way house, and tells Precious her father has died because of AIDs. Precious doesn’t care at first, because she hates her father for raping her. When She Was Good 1-100

The first part of this book is Em shopping for a casket for her sister, Pamela. Pamela is her older sister who has physically and verbally abused her her whole life. Pamela is very loud and rude, and she likes to have things her way. Em lived with Pamela because her mother, who had severe depression, died, and she and Pamela ran away from their father. He was an alcoholic who was remarried, and they hated his new wife, Sally. Sally thought that they should quit school and get jobs because she wasn’t going to let them live in her house unless they paid rent. The first part of this book is about Em’s life now. She’s finally realizing that she’s out of Pamela’s grasp and free to live how she wants. The second section is a bunch of stories about things that happened when Pamela was still alive.

Scarlett wants to get more money that is her own but she doesnt know how. She starts to investigate into Franks business. She finds that he is making good money, but selling to some people who do not have the money to pay for what they are getting. She doesnt want to be too snoopy becuase Frank has come to see that Scarlett knows much more then she leads on to. He finds that talking business is no longer fun to do becuase Scarlett actually knows what is going on and wants to put her own bit of advice on what he should do and how he should run his business. She doesnt get the chance to actually look through all of his papers until he is sick. Since he is sick and is bed ridden, Scarlett goes down to the shop to see what kind of mess there is. She finds that the store could be a lot more tidy, and after looking at the receipts realizes that Frank would have enough money to buy the saw mill if he would make people pay off their debts that they owed him. She became angry that Frank was still willing to sell to people who hadnt made payments in months. She then realized that somehow she would get the money to buy the saw mill herself and that she would be able to collect a large amount of money from it. She just didnt know where to get that money. As she was sitting in the store, Rhett Butler comes in and after a long conversation, she realizes that he indeed does have money and lots of it. She talks to him and he agrees to give her the money to buy the mill. They immediately go to the mill and she buys it in fear that if she waited, Rhett would change his mind and not lend her the money. So she buys it, and Frank is a little uneasy that she insist she run it and that she took the money from Rhett Butler.

Gone With the WInd. P 700-800

Scarlett is able to make Frank fall in love with her and he proposes. She further more tricks him into thinking that she is so terrible in love with her that she wants to get married right away. They go and get married in a court house. Scarlett is able to get the money she needed for the taxes, but now has to stay in Atlanta. She knows that Suellen has found out what she has done but she doesnt say anything more to her. Deep down she feels that Suellen knows why she did it. She isnt very found of Frank after being with him and finds that little things that frank does irritate her. Pitty is happy that Scarlett is finally back and that she has a little family around, but Scarlett more than anything in the world just wants to be back at Tara. She doesnt know exactly what is going on or what Ashley thought or felt when he found out that she was married to frank. Frank is overjoyed that Scarlett seems to be so madly in love with him that he doesnt even take the time to seem to notice what her real plans were or her intentions on marrying him were. She does what she needs to do in order to keep Frank happy and in belief that she adores him. Also little Wade is brought to Atlanta to live with his mother and new father.

Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 301-400

To everyone’s surprise, Nobu doesn’t become Sayuri’s danna. They chose another wealthy businessman. Eventually the war makes it impossible for the geisha to keep living the way they do. Sayuri moves in with another family, working for them as a maid, basically. One day Sayuri is told she has a visitor. She comes to see its Nobu. She has a long discussion with him, and it turns out Nobu has been looking for Sayuri, and geishas have started coming back to the area. Sayuri sends Auntie a letter, asking about reopening the okiya. One day Auntie comes back to get Sayuri, to open up the okiya. They go back and find it’s in ruins. It takes them much time, but they get it cleaned up. She also meets back up with Pumpkin. Pumpkin is very rude, but got much more attractive. Her face thinned out, and looked more grown up. I think Sayuri thought Pumpkin would become more popular because of her looks, but then her attitude and loud mouth ruined this for her. One night she finds Nobu, and Nobu wants to become her danna. For some reason Sayuri doesn’t want this, even though she likes Nobu a lot.

The Chosen One pg 101-213

The Chosen One by Carol Williams was a really good book. Kyra is still trying to be with Joshua instead of with her uncle, and during this time I was really hoping she would be able to be with Joshua instead of her uncle. That would be so horrible to have to marry your uncle and have kids with him. It sickens me just hearing this, because it isn't right for her to have to marry her uncle. I think it is wrong that she has been chosen to marry her uncle, and that she does not get to chose who she wants to be with. If she doesn't want to be with her uncle, then she shouldn't have to marry him. I think that destroys the whole getting married situation, because she doesn't get to fall in love with that certain someone when The Prophet chooses who she shall marry. Anyone in life wouldn't want to have their husband or wife chosen for them. I think it isn't right that anyone should have to have someone else choose who they shall marry. That isn't how life should go. It should be when you meet that certain someone and you fall in love, without someone choosing your destiny for you. You should have the right to choose who you want to get married to. I find that the ending of this book was kind of a scary time for Kyra, with all that was happening. I am also very grateful that she is safe now, and with a family that will take good care of her, and that she won't have to worry anymore.

Dawson was part of a family of criminals, and Amanda was part of a rich family who seemed to be perfect. Amanda's parents would try to ground her and keep her away from Dawson, but he was different. Dawson was smart and wouldn't do anything to harm anybody. After graduation, Dawson told Amanda that she needed to go to college at Duke, so that was the end of them. Dawson now lives in Louisiana by himself and works on the oil rig there. He keeps to himself and often thinks what his life would have been like if he would have stayed with Amanda. Amanda is married and has three children. Her father had died about five years earlier, so all she had left was her mother. Tuck, the person Dawson always went to during high school, died, and both Dawson and Amanda came back for his funeral. They met up at Tuck's house and they couldn't keep their eyes off of each other. They loved spending time with each other and talking about their past. Amanda always thought about her husband, Frank's drinking problem. She's thought about leaving him, but then again she wouldn't be honoring the martial vows. Thought she loves her kids dearly, she still loves Dawson. She doesn't know whether she should mention Frank to Dawson or not. Amanda's mother only cares about what other people think of her and her daughter. She feels that since she is rich, that she is better and more important than everyone. Dawson, on the other hand, kind of has a different problem. Abee and Ted are cousins of Dawson. Abee is trying to keep Ted out of trouble and better yet, jail. Since Dawson beat his dad and Ted up, Ted has been wanting revenge. Ted thinks he will get revenge before Dawson leaves Oriental.

The Chosen One pg 1-100

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams is a really good book so far. I find it very interesting how "The Prophet" chooses who your suposed to be with. I feel really bad for Kyra, because the Prophet has chosen her to marry her own uncle! Her Own Uncle! I find this very disgusting! Her father is going to try and change the Prophet's decision. I hope that Kyra can be with Joshua, because he is so nice and treats her well. This book is very different from others that I have read, but it is really good so far. It is a very interesting book of how her mother is married to her father, who is married to several other women, and they all have many children. I find this very odd, because what woman would want to marry a guy who is married to several other woman!?! Most women today wouldn't like this, and I can only imagine why. I can't wait to see what will happen next in the book.

Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 201-300

The next 100 pages start with Sayuri and Mameha are at a sumo wrestling match. This is where Mameha tells Sayuri her future could depend on Nobu, and one other man. She soon learns who the other man is. She goes to Mameha’s apartment, and Mameha has her put on a torn kimono, and has a maid put a cut in the back of Sayuri’s thigh. She then went to Dr. Crab, who was the man who would play a big part in her future, to have it taken care of. In this time Mother also adopted Sayuri as her own daughter. This largely had to do with money. When she was adopted Sayuri would become more important than Pumpkin and Hatsmumo-San. This made Hatsumomo very angry, because she had wanted Pumpkin to be the one that was adopted by Mother. This also discouraged Pumpkin, and in return upset Sayuri since Pumpkin was her close friend. Nobu also started to grow very fond of Sayuri, and was suspected to become Sayuri’s danna. This was odd because most geisha didn’t have a danna at the young age of 18. In this time Sayuri had her mizauge, which is basically having sex for the first time. Dr. Crab paid the most money anyone had for this, because of his obsession with Sayuri. She learned he had kept the blood from the cut in her thigh when she went to visit him. Mameha also decided, even though Sayuri wasn’t 20 yet, she should pay off her debts to the okiya. During these 100 pages I start to notice that Sayuri is becoming a much more respected geisha, and maturing greatly. I can definitely see her character changing.

They decided to split up because they thought I'd be harder to find and kill all four of them if they were separated. Peeta said that he couldn't take this anymore and he would find somewhere to go. Katniss and Gale made their way to the mansion when all of a sudden, Gale got captured by the Peacekeepers. Katniss left him to make her way to the mansion to kill Snow. Coin wanted to have a Hunger Games for the Capital children to give them a taste of their own medicine. The vote was yes, they decided to go through with it. Katniss was suppose to go out and shoot Snow with her arrow to end the war. She ended up killing Coin and Katniss was taken to captivity. She wanted to commit suicide instead of get tortured. Katniss was later taken back to Twelve, along with Haymitch. She stayed in her house a long time and didn't seem to move. One day she went outside to see that Peeta was there. He was planting rose bushes along his house. Katniss noticed that it was just any kind of rose, it was primrose. That was the flower Prim was named after. Katniss learned that Gale had some fancy job in District Two. She had a life with Peeta by now and after about fifteen years, he convinced her to have kids. They had a girl and a boy, and in school, they learned how both of their parents are victors of the Hunger Games.

Someone Knows My Name 20-100

The girl is very close with her father as a young child and some of the older women don't think that is appropriate. She and her mother are walking back from another village one night when they are attacked by many men and they can't handle it. She doesn't know what to do and even though her mom tells her to run she seems to be stuck in one place and she won't leave her mother's side. They get her mother and some other people and walk them for awhile. Then she sees that some other men have her father and her mother is no longer around. She knows what has happened but she can't even begin to believe it is actually the truth. Then she sees them kill her father and she knows both her parents are dead. She goes with the men because she has no other choice and she feels awkward and uncomfortable with them and doesn't like being with them. Luckily she has Fanta (a person from her village) with her and that comforts her some.

Nothing will every happy with them again. She then heads to the house knowing that the only person with money to help her might be Rhett and she will have to make him marry her so she doesnt ever have to worry about money again. THen she begins her plan to make Frank purpose to her.

Something Blue pg. 232-348

Something Blue by Emily Giffin was a really great book. I'm so happy that Dex and Rachel are together, because I believe that they were meant to be together. Darcy has moved on and found herself another man. Dex and Rachel had a little girl, Julia. Rachel and Darcy aren't on the best terms, but talk every once in awhile. I think it was cool how at the end, Darcy tells Rachel that she's going to use the ribbon as her "something blue." This book was a really great book and I liked it a lot. I noticed that Emily Giffin has a couple more books that I didn't know about; Baby Proof, Love the One Your With, and Heart of the Matter. I hope to read them some day. I still haven't seen the movie to Something Borrowed and I am really wanting and hoping to see it soon!

Water for Elephants 101-200

Jacob is still in his flashback, but when he is in the present, he’s at a nursing home. At this nursing home, there’s one resident that he really hates. That’s because this resident claims that he carried water for elephants when he was younger. Jacob knows that this isn’t true because elephants drink so much water, that it would be impossible to carry all of it. Back in the past, the circus crew goes to do a show, but they leave before the show starts to go to another town. In this new town, there’s a circus going out of business, so Uncle Al is able to purchase their elephant, Rosie, and an elephant train car. At first, Kinko and Jacob hated each other, but they’re starting to become friends because Jacob told him how to take care of his sick dog. August and Marlena invite Jacob to go to a night club with them. Jacob and Marlena start dancing, and they’re getting super close. They have to leave quickly, and when they get out in the alley, Jacob kisses Marlena. It caught Marlena off guard, and she ran off. The next day, Marlena was doing a new show with Rosie the elephant, and she got hurt. She bruised both of her heels and she was out for a couple weeks. Jacob goes to talk to Marlena and she kind of suggests, without really saying it, that she liked the kiss too. Jacob’s friend that he met the first night on the train, Camel, is becoming paralyzed slowly from some form of alcohol poisoning, so Jacob brings him to live in his train car.

Some are sad that they surrendered, but Scarlett is just glad it is over with.

Water for Elephants 1-100

Jacob Jankowski is an old man in a nursing home. When he was younger, he worked for the circus, and this book is basically a flashback from that time. Jacob went to an Ivy League college to get a degree in veterinary sciences. However, his parents died shortly before his final exam. His parents had mortgaged the farm, so he didn’t get anything at all in inheritance. He got to the final exam, and he just couldn’t focus at all. He left the room without having filled out a single answer. He ran away and jumped on a train to try to escape. When he got on the train, a man on the train almost threw him out. However, Camel, another man on the train, rescued him and told him that he was on a circus train, The Benzini Brothers’ Most Spectacular Show on Earth. Jacob got a job with the circus as the main veterinarian on the show. His first task is to take care of the main horse in the show, Silver Star. Marlena, the girl who performs on the horses, is devastated to find out that Silver Star cannot be healed. Jacob is kind of under the commands of August, Marlena’s husband. Jacob unintentionally tells August what to do one time, so August almost feeds him to the lions. August can be very temperamental and moody.

Mockingjay 201-300

Finnick and Annie get married and guess who made the cake? Yes, Peeta. Peeta was out of the hospital, but he still had to have two guards follow him around everywhere, in case he went on another rage. Katniss decided that she couldn't stand to be around Peeta. She wanted to get sent to the Capital, along with Johanna. Since they both missed all of their training, they have to train for three weeks and they will decided from there. Katniss is put on the special teams that also includes Gale and Finnick. Boggs is the leader of that group, and Johanna is sent to a different unit. Katniss' group is sent to the Capital, they weren't originally suppose to be in combat, but things change. There were bombs, pods, and traps in buildings or just hidden. On one attack, Boggs got shot so many times by a pod that he died. Katniss sad right beside him as he breathed his last breath. He gave the Hollo to her and she was the only one that could use because it was programed for her use. Right before Boggs took his last breath, he said to Katniss, "Don't trust them. Don't go back. Kill Peeta. Do what you came to do." Their next mission is to kill Snow. Katniss is now the leader of the group because the Hollo is programed to her and Boggs wanted her to be. They all decided that the only way to get deeper into the Capital is to go underground. They found a place to stay for the night. They are all taking turns to watch, just in case somebody would happen to come and they were ready.

Something Blue pg. (131-231)

Dex has called off the wedding and told Darcy that he doesn't want to be with her anymore. This is very devastating for Darcy, but I'm happy that Dex finally did what he was going to do. I feel sorry for Darcy, but in a way I don't, because of the way she treated people. She was always the one that got everything she wanted, and now everything is taking a quick turn for the worse for Darcy. I hate that once Darcy and Dex are over with, Darcy is already trying to find another man, that she has to have what she wants. I think there is a great moral to this story which is, you can't always get what you want in life. Life is going to have its ups and downs, but no matter what happens you have to move on with your life and not give up. When things get bad there is always something that will make it better, it may not be exactly right after it happens, but it will happen eventually.

Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 101-200

One day Chiyo receives a package from Mr. Tanaka. It actually turns out to be a letter telling her how her mom died, and shortly after her dad also passed away. Chiyo felt like giving up on life at this point in time. One day she was out running errands and another geisha was making fun of her for crying in public, and a man was kind to her, and gave her money for something to eat. Instead of getting something to eat she went to the Gion Shrine, and put the money in the offertory box, and prayed that she should become a successful geisha. Days later Chiyo received a note to lie, and go visit Mameha (another successful geisha/enemy of Hatsumomo). After this visit between Mameha and Chiyo Mameha showed up at the Okiya to ask for mother to put Chiyo back in classes, and if she would be her sister. Mother agreed, but not without having promised Chiyo would pay her debts. So, Chiyo began her life as Mameha’s sister, which is equivalent to having an older geisha train you, and put your name out there. Chiyo soon had her named changed to Sayuri. She learned that since she had become a geisha, Hasumomo was trying to trash her name, and she began telling rude lies about Sayuri. Mameha and Sayuri did everything in their power to prevent this from happening, and trying to attend parties where they wouldn’t be. Toward the end of the 100 pages Mameha and Sayuri were attending a party that the Chinese chairman was attending.
