The Zookeeper's Wife. P. 1-40
It starts by describing the sun coming into the house. Then Antonina tells about Jan. She tells how he was engineer, but always had an interest in the connections between animals and people and also between people and animal nature. She goes on to tell how their home had been filled with a variety of things over the years. She tells how she and Jan met at college and how they fell in love with each other. In 1929, they had a chance to buy a zoo in Praga. They married and then moved across the river to the rough neighborhood where they would be able to run the new zoo and spend their lives with the animals. Antonina goes on to describe how there are different parts of the city with different things to offer. She also says the variety of foods you can get from having the different ethnic groups that are spread across the town.
