The Best of Me 156-260

Dawson and Amanda go to Tuck's cottage to spread his ashes. It is one of the most beautiful places they have ever seen. There are flowers everywhere! As they walk into the house, there are two wine glasses sitting on the table, along with a bottle of wine. Dawson and Amanda can now see why Tuck brought them here. Amanda feels like she is back in high school when she's with Dawson. She always wonders what her life would have been like if she would have stayed with Dawson. Dawson always wonders how his life would have changed if he would have kept Amanda. When it was time to leave, they drove for awhile while it was storming and stopped. They both decided to turn around and head back to the cottage. Though Amanda is a married woman, she ended up having sex with Dawson. The next morning they woke up and discussed what was to come of their lives. They drove back to Tuck's house in Oriental. Nobody was there and this is where they said their goodbyes. They know that they will never get a second chance to be together. Amanda considers all of her options before deciding to go back to Frank and her kids. Amanda drove back to her mom's house to gather all of her belongings. Dawson went to the cemetery to visit Dr. Bonner. Once Amanda was packed she decided that she couldn't live without Dawson. She drove to the cemetery and as she was approaching Dawson's rental car, she turned around and drove home. On her way back home, she got a phone call that Jared and Frank had been in a wreck. She raced to the hospital to see if they were okay. Jared was still seeing a doctor and Frank was drunk. All Amanda wanted to do is scream and yell at Frank, but she knew that would solve nothing.

When She Was Good 201-228

Em starts to really realize all the effects of Pamela’s passing. She finally lets the little girl that visits her garden, Lana, help her. She’s starting to become a less bitter person. She gets a job working at a store. She probably should hate her boss, Mr. Becker, because he makes her do things like getting him coffee. She likes him, though, because he gave her a job and that’s all she really wanted. She talks to Louise again and Louise tells her that she has two daughters that can’t stand her. Louise just can’t understand why Em wants to be her friend. Em talks to a guy, Warren. They like each other and they kind of hit it off. Louise apologizes to Em and they sort of become friends. It also tells how Pamela died. She had some sort of attack while she was just sitting in her chair, and she fell to the ground, shaking, and died.

The Last Child pg 98-198

The Last Child is a really great book! Johnny Merrimon is a really dedicated brother that is out to find the answers of his sister's disappearance. Johnny is a really good kid, and it's sad what he goes through. I think it would be terrible to go through what Johnny went through. It would be very hard for me to go through that. The thought of losing a brother or sister is devastating. Even though your brother or sister can be annoying at times, it would still be devastating to lose them forever. Once they're gone there is no getting them back. They're gone forever. The fact that Johnny went through this whole process is breath taking. I know I could never go through what he has gone through. It is quite scary to think of the fact that you lost your sibling to a very devastating event. Johnny is a very strong, tough boy that has a very willingness to find the truth about what had happened to his sister. Not many people would go through all of this just to find out what had happened to their brothers or sisters, but it is very breath taking what Johnny does to find out what had happened to his sister, Alyssa.

Marcelo in the Real World pgs. 101-200

In the next 100 pages of the book Marcelo stops working with Jasmine, and works with Wendall. For a while he’ll work part time with both of them, then eventually he’ll work full time with Wendall, because his father thinks that would be good for him. He then learns Wendall wants to use Marcelo. He wants Marcelo to invite Jasmine on his boat, so he can have sex with her. Marcelo recently learned, from the rabbi, that sex can be used to hurt people, and has a feeling that’s what Wendall is going to do to Jasmine. He also knows that if he doesn’t please Wendall, then Wendall will tell his father. If his father finds out he hasn’t succeeded, he could be forced to go to real high school next year. During this time Marcelo also find a picture of a girl with a very deformed face in the trash while he’s working for Wendall. He feels the need to learn more about this girl, so he consults Jasmine. Jasmine figures out what law firm the picture was taken at, and Marcelo goes to talk to the lawyer. The lawyer turns out to be a college friend of his father’s. He works in a poor part of town, and works with people who have had accidents. He tells Marcelo he sent his father a letter asking for the windshield company (since it was their windshield that wasn’t supposed to shatter that damaged her face) to cover the reconstructive surgery.  His father doesn’t agree to this, but Marcelo goes against his father’s rules, and decides he’s going to go meet the girl, Ixtel.

Water for Elephants 301-331

The day after Walter and Camel are thrown off the train, Jacob hears that Camel died right away and Walter’s legs were crushed, so he died too. That day at their performance, the animals in the menagerie all escape their cages. They’re all running crazy, and some of them go into the performance tent. Jacob is looking frantically for Marlena, and he finally sees her. As he spots her, he also sees Rosie pull up her stake that’s holding her to the ground, pick it up with her trunk, and stab August in the head, killing him. Jacob never told anyone about that in his whole life. Quite predictably, the ‘Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth’ went out of business. Another circus came to town and absorbed all of their things. Jacob and Marlena ended up with the eleven horses and Rosie. They got married and had kids. Rosie went to a zoo, and Jacob and Marlena worked for Ringling circus. Back in the present, Jacob sneaks out of the nursing home and goes to the circus. He gets a ringside seat, and he talks to the general manager about getting a job. He runs away to the circus for the second time in his life, because it’s the only place he feels at home.

When She Was Good 101-200

These pages start when Em is in her flashback. She’s remembering when she and Pamela ran away from their father and stepmother. They found an apartment, but after living in it for a few months, they got kicked out for not paying the rent. They went to live in a homeless shelter. Em held a lot of different jobs, and always got fired. Then, it goes back to the present. Em is living on her own. Em becomes fascinated with this woman that lives in her apartment. The woman looks sort of like her mother, so that’s probably why Em feels some sort of a connection to her. Em wants to make a garden in front of her apartment complex because her mother always gardened. Her landlord won’t let her put one in because he says if he lets one person have a garden, everyone would have to. He eventually lets her though, so she starts a garden. There’s a little girl that comes to visit her when she gardens, but Em doesn’t let her help at all because she thinks she’ll screw everything up. Em still doesn’t have a job and she’s constantly looking for one. Em goes up to see the Louise, the random lady that she feels a connection to. Louise just thinks she’s some sort of freak, but even so, Em keeps dreaming that they’ll become friends some day.

Someone Knows My Name 200-469

Fanta has had her baby and Aminata lets the people know. She meets a man name John Clarkson who takes good care of her and she tells him some of her story. Chekura still brings her food and they are still friends. They were taking Aminata and Fomba somewhere they did not know. They had just been walking for a long time. They meet people and Aminata explains to them what her and Fomba's village back home was like and how they treat the babies there. When Aminata got sick a woman named Georgia housed and took care of her and even though it killed Aminata not being able to go outside it was very helpful in making her get better. She was better in time for indigo harvesting and they went through more than one cycle of this. Aminata gave Chekura a yellow wrap she had received delivering a baby and Georgia said she should not give him anything at all. Robinson Appleby returned to their plantation in December and by that time Aminata was only three moons from having a baby. Appleby told her to throw her clothes in the fire or he would make it worse for her than it already was. Georgia just stood there without saying anything. Appleby cut all her hair off and shaved her head. Appleby told her that her baby belonged to him. She named her baby Mamadu after her father. Her husband Cherkura came back fourteen days after their son was born. Aminata woke up one night to her 10 month old baby crying but soon realized it was not next to her and Appleby had taken him and given him away to a man on a carriage. Georgia told her that her man may have been sold or hired out if he didn't come back but Aminata did not believe her. Soon after Appleby sold her to Solomon Lindo in Charles Town. She missed Chekura terribly and wanted to be with him. Mrs. Lindo seemed pleased to meet Aminata and that Mr. Lindo had said a lot about her. Aminata and Dolly walked about the town of Charles Town and Aminata tried  to get used to how different it was. A few months after she got there she helped deliver Dolly's son Samuel. She worked as a self-hire midwife for many years but she was sad she'd never got to see Georgia again. There was a British invasion that she got to experience also. She had been in Canvas Town where a lot had been going on with British activity. She told Colonel Baker she wanted to go to Nova Scotia. One evening she got asked by guards if she knew and man and it ended up being Chekura so of course she hugged him and was so happy to see him. Chekura worked with Aminata and they were happy to be together again. Aminata had said she trusted the British because they said they would protect her and they did. When she went to Nova Scotia she discovered it was colder than Charles Town. Aminata was pregnant again and her first winter in Nova Scotia disease struck their town. She named her daughter May after the month of her birth. After May's third birthday she told Aminata that someday they would go back to their homeland. One night she lost May and ran all over town screaming and looking for her but no one seemed to know where she was. She found out that the Witherspoon's had taken her daughter on a ship and didn't tell Aminata. Over the next four years she found out no information about May or where Chekura was. The only thing she had was her little cabin in Birchtown. Nova Scotia made a new colony named Freetown and many people were very happy. They could get all the slaves they wanted in Bance Island so there was no slave trade in Freetown. Finally Aminata thinks she may get the chance to return home after many years of waiting. But after they had gone for ahwile the man-stealers were planning to sell her so Aminata planned her escape. She escapes and stays with some people for awhile to get food and strength. Eventually she met up with her daughter May. May took her all around her home land and to the school where she taught. She has told her story and now is with May who has a husband and she is planning to have a baby.

She knew that she had problems with Frank. After the argument, Amanda went to go meet Dawson so they could ride up together so spread Tuck's ashes. Push pgs. 101-140

Throughout the pages I start to notice Precious is easier to understand, and is using a little bet better of spelling and grammar. She also says that she cuts her herself, and as she says “not trying to die, trying to plus myself back in.” Precious starts going to an incest support group. She can’t believe other people have had the same types of problems she has. She does counseling, and one day she takes back her file. In it says she’s made good progress, but it isn’t good enough to get her into a class to get her G.E.D. Abdul also gets tested for HIV, and isn’t positive. I start to see things looking up in Precious’s life, and can see the love she has for her baby.

The Last Child pg 1-97

The Last Child by John Hart is a really good book so far. Johnny Merrimon is the main character and he is a really smart boy. I think it is really sweet of him to take care of his mom, since she is devastated from the loss of her daughter, Alyssa. His father had left his family a little while after the disappearance of Alyssa. Clyde Lafayette Hunt was the cop that had been trying to help Johnny's family, and was also the one that promised Johnny that he would bring Alyssa back home after she disappeared. When Clyde never brought Alyssa back years later, Johnny had a plan. He was going to get on his bike, take a map with him, and go look for Alyssa. His ambition left him not caring if she was still alive, all he wanted to know was where she was and what had happened to her. This book is quite sad when you think about it, because who would ever want something so devastating to happen to them. This book is a really great book, and I can't wait to keep reading to find out what Johnny will find out.

Push pgs. 1-100

Push is about a 16-year-old black girl living in Harlem. Her father has continually raped her for quite sometime now. She had her first baby when she was only 12 years old. The baby, Little Mongol, has Down syndrome, and now lives with her grandparents. Precious’s mom claims that she’s taking care of Precious and Little Mongol so she can get more money from welfare. When the principal of the school Precious is going to finds out that Precious is pregnant again, she kicks her out of school. But she tells Precious about a school that can help her get a G.E.D, and teach her to read and write. She starts going there, and befriends the teacher, Miss Rain. When Precious has the baby she goes back to living at home, after she got out of the hospital. We learn throughout the story that her mother is abusive. One day Precious walks out with her baby, Abdul. She goes back to the hospital, and they turn her away. She then is taken to the armory, which she finds to be awful, and gets her bags and possessions stolen. She then goes to a ½ Way house. Throughout this team she continues writing letter to Miss Rain, and she eventually starts going back to the class. One day her mother comes to the ½ Way house, and tells Precious her father has died because of AIDs. Precious doesn’t care at first, because she hates her father for raping her. Then she realizes that she’s at risk for the disease, and so are the children. She gets tested, and is HIV positive.

When She Was Good 1-100

The first part of this book is Em shopping for a casket for her sister, Pamela. Pamela is her older sister who has physically and verbally abused her her whole life. Pamela is very loud and rude, and she likes to have things her way. Em lived with Pamela because her mother, who had severe depression, died, and she and Pamela ran away from their father. He was an alcoholic who was remarried, and they hated his new wife, Sally. Sally thought that they should quit school and get jobs because she wasn’t going to let them live in her house unless they paid rent. The first part of this book is about Em’s life now. She’s finally realizing that she’s out of Pamela’s grasp and free to live how she wants. The second section is a bunch of stories about things that happened when Pamela was still alive.

She then realized that somehow she would get the money to buy the saw mill herself and that she would be able to collect a large amount of money from it. She just didnt know where to get that money. As she was sitting in the store, Rhett Butler comes in and after a long conversation, she realizes that he indeed does have money and lots of it. She talks to him and he agrees to give her the money to buy the mill. They immediately go to the mill and she buys it in fear that if she waited, Rhett would change his mind and not lend her the money. Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 301-400

To everyone’s surprise, Nobu doesn’t become Sayuri’s danna. They chose another wealthy businessman. Eventually the war makes it impossible for the geisha to keep living the way they do. Sayuri moves in with another family, working for them as a maid, basically. One day Sayuri is told she has a visitor. She comes to see its Nobu. She has a long discussion with him, and it turns out Nobu has been looking for Sayuri, and geishas have started coming back to the area. Sayuri sends Auntie a letter, asking about reopening the okiya. One day Auntie comes back to get Sayuri, to open up the okiya. They go back and find it’s in ruins. It takes them much time, but they get it cleaned up. She also meets back up with Pumpkin. Pumpkin is very rude, but got much more attractive. Her face thinned out, and looked more grown up. I think Sayuri thought Pumpkin would become more popular because of her looks, but then her attitude and loud mouth ruined this for her. One night she finds Nobu, and Nobu wants to become her danna. For some reason Sayuri doesn’t want this, even though she likes Nobu a lot.

The Chosen One pg 101-213

The Chosen One by Carol Williams was a really good book. Kyra is still trying to be with Joshua instead of with her uncle, and during this time I was really hoping she would be able to be with Joshua instead of her uncle. That would be so horrible to have to marry your uncle and have kids with him. It sickens me just hearing this, because it isn't right for her to have to marry her uncle. I think it is wrong that she has been chosen to marry her uncle, and that she does not get to chose who she wants to be with. If she doesn't want to be with her uncle, then she shouldn't have to marry him. I think that destroys the whole getting married situation, because she doesn't get to fall in love with that certain someone when The Prophet chooses who she shall marry. Anyone in life wouldn't want to have their husband or wife chosen for them. I think it isn't right that anyone should have to have someone else choose who they shall marry. That isn't how life should go. It should be when you meet that certain someone and you fall in love, without someone choosing your destiny for you. You should have the right to choose who you want to get married to. I find that the ending of this book was kind of a scary time for Kyra, with all that was happening. I am also very grateful that she is safe now, and with a family that will take good care of her, and that she won't have to worry anymore.

The Chosen One pg 1-100

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams is a really good book so far. I find it very interesting how "The Prophet" chooses who your suposed to be with. I feel really bad for Kyra, because the Prophet has chosen her to marry her own uncle! Her Own Uncle! I find this very disgusting! Her father is going to try and change the Prophet's decision. I hope that Kyra can be with Joshua, because he is so nice and treats her well. This book is very different from others that I have read, but it is really good so far. It is a very interesting book of how her mother is married to her father, who is married to several other women, and they all have many children. I find this very odd, because what woman would want to marry a guy who is married to several other woman!?! Most women today wouldn't like this, and I can only imagine why. I can't wait to see what will happen next in the book.

Memoirs of a Geisha pgs. 201-300

The next 100 pages start with Sayuri and Mameha are at a sumo wrestling match. This is where Mameha tells Sayuri her future could depend on Nobu, and one other man. She soon learns who the other man is. She goes to Mameha’s apartment, and Mameha has her put on a torn kimono, and has a maid put a cut in the back of Sayuri’s thigh. She then went to Dr. Crab, who was the man who would play a big part in her future, to have it taken care of. In this time Mother also adopted Sayuri as her own daughter. This largely had to do with money. When she was adopted Sayuri would become more important than Pumpkin and Hatsmumo-San. This made Hatsumomo very angry, because she had wanted Pumpkin to be the one that was adopted by Mother. This also discouraged Pumpkin, and in return upset Sayuri since Pumpkin was her close friend. Nobu also started to grow very fond of Sayuri, and was suspected to become Sayuri’s danna. This was odd because most geisha didn’t have a danna at the young age of 18. In this time Sayuri had her mizauge, which is basically having sex for the first time. Dr. Crab paid the most money anyone had for this, because of his obsession with Sayuri. She learned he had kept the blood from the cut in her thigh when she went to visit him. Mameha also decided, even though Sayuri wasn’t 20 yet, she should pay off her debts to the okiya. During these 100 pages I start to notice that Sayuri is becoming a much more respected geisha, and maturing greatly. I can definitely see her character changing.

Mockingjay 301-390

They all try making their way to the President's Mansion. Finnick ends up getting killed by the mutts that were released to kill Katniss. Pollox, Cressida, Katniss, and Gale were the four remaining. They decided to split up because they thought I'd be harder to find and kill all four of them if they were separated. Peeta said that he couldn't take this anymore and he would find somewhere to go. Katniss and Gale made their way to the mansion when all of a sudden, Gale got captured by the Peacekeepers. Katniss left him to make her way to the mansion to kill Snow. When she stood out front of it, she noticed that children were trapped inside the gate surrounding the gigantic house. Silver parachutes would drop with food and other necessities for the kids, but then a hovercraft with the Capital insignia on it, dropped bombs. The children died. Katniss tried making her way to the children, but then she caught on fire. She was sent to the hospital and labeled at Mentally Disabled. On her wrist it told her who she was and a little about her life. It told her that her little sister Prim was dead. She was among the children that got bombed. Katniss finally recovered enough to go to a meeting, which she thought was about Snows' execution. The victors were there along with Coin. Coin wanted to have a Hunger Games for the Capital children to give them a taste of their own medicine. The vote was yes, they decided to go through with it. Katniss was suppose to go out and shoot Snow with her arrow to end the war. She ended up killing Coin and Katniss was taken to captivity. She wanted to commit suicide instead of get tortured. Katniss was later taken back to Twelve, along with Haymitch. She stayed in her house a long time and didn't seem to move. One day she went outside to see that Peeta was there. He was planting rose bushes along his house. Katniss noticed that it was just any kind of rose, it was primrose. That was the flower Prim was named after. Katniss learned that Gale had some fancy job in District Two. She had a life with Peeta by now and after about fifteen years, he convinced her to have kids. They had a girl and a boy, and in school, they learned how both of their parents are victors of the Hunger Games.
