Marcelo in the Real World pgs. 1-100

Marcelo in the Real World is about a 17-year-old boy with a mental disorder. He goes to a school that helps with kids with these types of problems. We learn that he hears music in his head, and he has a great deal trying to do things that haven’t been planned. He is a organized schedule for everyday. His father wants him to start going to regular high school, so he can learn what it’s like to cope in the “real world.” He doesn’t want to, so his father makes him a deal. If Marcelo works at his law firm for the summer, then he can decide whether to go back to Paterson or go to regular high school, if takes his dad’s offer, then he can’t work with the horses at Paterson, which he’s very good with. He decides to take his dad’s offer, and work at the law firm. He works with a girl, Jasmine. Jasmine tells him she didn’t want him to be her assistant, and that she already had someone picked out. Marcelo starts learning how to work with other people, and the do’s and don’t’s of the “real world.” He starts talking to Wendell, who is a lawyer’s son, about women, and what is considered beautiful and such things.
