Water for Elephants 201-300
The lemonade keeps going missing, and Uncle Al thinks someone's stealing it. He figures out that Rosie the elephants is escaping her chain and going to drink all the lemonade. He beats her so badly that she can hardly move. Jacob goes to check on her and see how she's doing, and while he's there, he says something in Polish. Rosie seems to respond to it, so Jacob starts throwing out all sorts of Polish words and phrases and he discovers that Rosie can understand Polish. They thought she was a dumb elephant, but she's actually really smart if you speak to her in the right language. They start to use Rosie for performing in the circus, and it's a huge success. Marlena wants to surprise August with a party celebrating Rosie’s success, and she asks Jacob to help her. August gets there and blows up because he thinks Jacob and Marlena have been sleeping together. He gets into a fist fight with Jacob, and after Jacob leaves, he beats Marlena. Marlena says she’s going to divorce him, so she won’t stay in his train car anymore. Jacob takes her to check her into a hotel, and they end up sleeping together. They fall in love, and Marlena tells Jacob that she’s pregnant with his child. August can’t stand not being with Marlena, and he wants her back so badly, but she won’t go back to him. Uncle Al has Walter (Kinko) and Camel thrown off the train. In the present, Jacob was supposed to get out of the home for a day to go to the circus, but his family forgot to come get him.
