Gone With the Wind. P 500-600

Melly is becoming very pregnant, and the Yankees keep on moving closer and closer to Atlanta. Then Melanie thinks she is going to have the baby. Word is that the Yankees are coming to take over Atlanta. Scarlett sends out Prissy to get the doctor, but she has no such luck. Everyone is busy with all the wounded soldiers that are going to Atlanta trying to flee from the Yankees. Scarlett realizes that there is no other way but to have her and Prissy deliever the baby. After they get the baby delivered, they see fire on the other side of town and realize that the Yankees have made it. Scarlett sends Prissy to go out and get Rhett whom she hasnt had anything to do with for some time. Prissy comes back and says that Rhett is coming. When he arrives they move Melanie into the old cart Rhett has stole. Prissy, Wade, Melly, and the new baby are in the back while Rhett and Scarlett ride in the front. For once Scarlett feels safe and secure beside Rhett she clings to him and never wants to be apart. Scarlett tells Rhett that she wants to go back to Tara despite the fact that it is in the center of where the fighting was. They make it down a dark road when Rhett stops and tells her he is going to fight for the army and she must continue along without him. He also says that despite what he has said before, he truly loves her. She says she hates him for leaving her now, when she needs him most. Scarlett continues onto Tara, and after a long hard trip, she makes it. When she arrives it is a relief that Tara is still there since alot of her neighbors homes have been burnt to the ground. She ends up becoming the head of the house since her mother has died and father has become insane. She runs everything that goes on, and works very hard to make things work. She has become very strict and cold hearted. Though she seems to have to be this way to make sure no one else in the household falls. Finally the war ends, and the soldiers are coming back home. Some are sad that they surrendered, but Scarlett is just glad it is over with.
