In the next 100 pages Ben learns why Rudy left the ministry, and became an alcoholic. He learns Rudy is a pedophile, and did everything to deny the fact, but the feelings were too strong. Rudy thought becoming a priest would heal his issue. In the end, it did not. He was very good friends with a family. The family had a 13-year-old boy, who Rudy molested. Rudy continued to molest him, and stayed friends with the family, and the boy never told. Eventually signs were showing though. The boy lost interest in schoolwork in athletics. One day Rudy found that the boy had shot himself in the chapel. That’s when he decided to quit the priesthood, and drink to numb the pain. Ben also starts telling people about his blood disease, and that he didn’t have much time left. He told Coach, who took it hard, but helped him through it. He told his brother, who also took it harsh. Then he told Dallas, who took it harsher than the other two. She told Ben to leave the house, and they didn’t talk since then. Ben often felt fatigued, and noticed the disease catching up with him.
