Gone With the Wind. P 400-500
The Yankees are so close to town that many of the women are evacuating and going to other places. Aunt Pitty has packed her trunk and told her family that the commotion is too much for her to handle and she will be going to stay with Mrs. Burr while the fighting continues to go on in Atlanta. Scarlett desperately hates Mrs. Burr and decided that she would wish to go back to Tara and be with her family. With everyone worrying and complaining about what is going on about her, Scarlett is becoming irritated. She only wants to be with her mother so she can feel calm and that everything is going to be okay. She tells her idea of going back to Tara, but it is disapproved of by her parents. It would not be safe for her to travel the trains while the Yankees were fighting to gain control. Also Melanie is so pregnant that the doctor said she is to stay in bed and not go anywhere. She has such narrow hips that the doctor is already worried about the delivery. With the war going on and her stress already high, he also worries the baby might come early. Since Auntie left Scarlett, Melanie, Prissy, and Wade are the only ones at the house. One night while sitting on the porch, Rhett walks up to talk to Scarlett. The last time she has seen him, she said she never wished to see him again, but since she was lonely and wanted company. As she began talking to him he told her that he did indeed care about her. She wanted him to say he loved her but as she prodded him to say it, he only ended up making her mad. She then said she honestly never wanted to see him again and he must leave. He smiled and left.
