The Art of Racing in the Rain 101-200

When Eve, Denny, and Zoe are on vacation, Eve slips on a rock and hits her head. She has to go to the hospital for this, so the doctors finally see her for her disease. She’s in the hospital for a while, but eventually she goes to live with her parents, Trish and Maxwell. Enzo and Denny don’t really like Trish and Maxwell at all. Zoe ends up living with them while Eve is there so she gets to spend more time with Eve. A bunch of relatives come to see Eve before she dies because she has about six months to live. One of these is a 15-year-old girl named Annika. Annika develops a huge crush on Denny. One night, Denny has to drive Annika back home. It’s normally a five hour drive, but the snow is so bad, it takes nearly ten hours. They stop and stay somewhere, and Annika tries to come on to Denny. Denny is nearly so tired that he’s nearly unconscious, and at first he doesn’t stop her. Then he realizes what is going on and he pushes her away and her dad comes to pick her up. Eve passed away a few months later. She knew it was going to happen, but it was still really hard for Denny. Trish and Maxwell tried to get custody of Zoe, but Denny refused, so they sued him for custody of Zoe. Denny got a lawyer, and it looked like he’d for sure get custody. However, he was arrested at work on a rape charge. The book hasn’t said yet, but I’m guessing that Annika charged him for rape, when really, nothing happened between them. His lawyer is angry, and he doesn’t think Denny has much of a chance at custody now.
