War Brides 100-200 pages

Tanni received a shock of worry, as the strange woman standing in her kitchen explained to her that she had to be moved to the country to be safe because the Germans were likely to bomb London. Her parents still had not shown up in London and neither had her twin sisters. As she quickly told her friend Rachel who assured her that she would contact Tanni if any word of her family reached her she would tell Tanni. Tanni was sent to Crowmarsh Priors to live with Mrs. Evangline Fairfax. At the same time the Pigeon family in lower class London were having a hard time with the move to the country as well. Penelope Fairfax did her best to get all of the children to safe homes while getting Mrs. Pigeon and the two youngest children housed together. Her oldest daughter Elsie was sent to work as a housemaid for Lady Marchmont in Crowmarsh Priors. Lady Marchmont's goddaughter, Frances, happened to be living with her as well at this time. Elsie and Frances start to become very close as time goes by. Elsie spent a lot of time with Tanni and Evangline as well because Elsie and Tanni understood each others situation very well. Alice who is in charge of many activities in the town spends time with all of these women. These were the events that took place for these five women Elsie, Tanni, Alice, Frances, and Evangline to become part of a very long endeavor. In the months that follow Evangline decides to leave her lover Laurent because she relaizes she is in love with her husband Richard. Alice is trying to get over her dislike of Evangline while putting up with her overbearing mother. Alice's mother makes it hard for her because she won't let her forget what happened between her and Richard. Frances and Elsie join the land girls which is a group that works on farms near Crowmarsh Priors while the men are at war. Frances gets to her end with the organization and secretly interviews for a place in intelligence work to become a spy and infiltrate France. While Frances was away Tanni also left to London to see her friends and her husband, who is home on leave, for a Jewish Holiday. Tanni is anxtious to hear news about her family but Bruno, her husband doesn't want to tell her the horrible things that has happened. He keeps secret from her that his mother had died and her parents were in a German work camp. Her twin sisters never made it to London because their train had been intercepted and sent to France. He expresses how much he loves Tanni and while on Holiday she gets pregnant with her second child.
