Matched 1-100

Cassia lives in a society where you don't decide what you wear or what you eat. You don't even decide who you will be spending the rest of your life with! Since Cassia and her best friend, Xander, are now seventeen, they will be matched. They head to the City Hall to enjoy the banquet and to meet their "Match." After a tasteful meal, they all sit in anxiety waiting for the results. All the girls' Matches are from a different province. When Cassia's name is called, no face shows up on the big screen. That only means one thing, her Match is from her province. Cassia ends up being Matched with Xander and she is relieved. Everyone else has to go through the process of meeting and learning all about their Matches. Cassia, on the other hand, already knows Xander like the back of her hand, so they will be taking a different approach to marriage. Everyone gets a microcard to hook up to the port, and it tells stuff about each others Match. As Cassia put in her microcard, she first saw Xander's face flash across the screen, and then it switched to someone else. She recognized the face, but she couldn't put a name to it. She finally identified him as Ky Markham. He is an Aberration because of his father, which means he is a Single, so he will never be married. After all of this happened, Cassia wanted to tell only one person, Grandfather. Since Grandfather is almost eighty, he will die soon. On Grandfather's day of death, he shows Cassia that there is a secret compartment in a compact that he gave her. It holds old poems that Grandmother loved. If the Officials found out about them, they would be punished greatly because it is against the rules to have such a thing. In the meantime, after Grandfather dies, Cassia takes up the activity of hiking with Ky. On the first day, Cassia stopped in a bush and read the poems. After she read through them, she quickly put them away and raced to the top. Ky was the only one there, so she sat and waited with him. They were having a nice conversation until Ky said, "I saw you."
