100 pages response

Alice Osbourne is a hometown girl in Crowmarsh Priors in England. She is about twenty-two years old and her father is the East Sussex in the towns church. Alice is very close to her father and mother, her mother is ill most of the time so she spends a lot of time walking with her father. Alice isn't a social butterfly exactly but she has one good friend Richard Fairfax. As the two grow up Richard joins the military and is only home on holidays. While Richard is gone Alice's father falls ill and passes away. While she was cleaning up her fathers study there was an unexpected visitor, it was Richard! He asked her to walk with him and go for supper together. While they were walking he proposed to her! She couldn't imagine wanting to be with anyone else so she said yes. Unfortunately events didn't turn out in her favor. While Richard was working in New Orleans he meets Miss Evangeline Fontaine. She is a debutante, even though she is very pretty she is also tends to get into trouble. Before she was sent to the Convent her four brothers taught her how to shot guns and fish. Her parents started to lose money and were going to have her marry a brute like man that seemed to have something wrong with him. Evangeline gets pregnant with Laurent who is a half colored man. At these times racism was really bad and Hitler was in power in Germany. Evangeline's brutish fiance finds out about her and tries to whip Laurent to death! She had to make a decision and shoot her fiance in order to save him. In order to save herself she convinces Richard to runaway with her and get married on the ship! Poor Alice had to find out about all this from Richard's mother Penelope who was heartbroken not to have Alice as her daughter in law. We are then taken to Austria to follow a Jewish girl named Tanni. Her  family has been greatly affected by Hitlers reign and her parents are making means of escape. One afternoon while Tanni was watching her twin sisters her mother called her in. They were making something they wouldn't tell her about. After her parents threw her out of the room to receive Bruno, their friends son, at the door events started to happen quickly. When she went to open the door there was an old man there an old patient of her fathers. He told her the Germans were comming and they needed to get away. Bruno arrived minutes later and told Tanni they must marry so they could runaway to England and save the family. At sixteen Tanni marries Bruno. The mob was practically breaking down the door as they were married and rushed out back to take the boat to England. Tanni becomes very anxious to see her family again.
