Gone With the Wind 901-1000

Rhett is a really good father, and he doesn't want Bonnie to have a bad life just because he is an outcast, so he tries to improve his image. He begins working with the Democrats and quits working with the Republicans, and eventually he is accepted back into society, though Scarlett never really is, because she refuses to quit working with the Republicans. Melanie throws a surprise birthday party for Ashley, and it is Scarlett's job to delay him. She begins talking to him, and she realizes that she is no longer madly in love with him. It's now just more of a friendly love. She starts reminiscing about the past with him and crying, and he hugs her. Archie and Ashley's sister, India, watched them the whole time, and Archie goes to tell Rhett. Rhett gets really upset, but Scarlett doesn't really care that much. She's more worried about Melanie. However, Melanie is such a good friend to Scarlett that she wasn't even upset. That night, when Scarlett goes downstairs to get a drink, she finds Rhett drunk. He tells her that he is in love with her, and after that night, she finds a new love for him. However, after being gone for a few days, Rhett returns and tells her that he was with the prostitute, Belle Watling, and they get in a fight. Melanie continues to be a good friend to Scarlett, and it ends up ruining her relationship with India Wilkes and Aunt Pitty. Rhett goes away for a few months, and while he's gone, Scarlett finds out that she is pregnant with his second child. When he comes back, he's furious about it, so Scarlett tries to hit him. However, when she swung at him, she missed, fell down the stairs, and lost the baby. She was badly hurt as well. Rhett feels horribly guilty about this and he tells Melanie how much he's in love with Scarlett. Scarlett goes to Tara to recover from her fall, and while she's there, Rhett gives Ashley money to buy the sawmills from Scarlett. Melanie isn't super fond of this idea, but she agrees when she realizes that she might be able to send her son to college with this money. Rhett and Ashley put quite a bit of time into disbanding the KKK in Georgia, and Rhett gets back into good standings in the Democratic Party. Rhett really spoils Bonnie. She tells him that she wants a pony, so he buys her one. She does jumps with it, but one day when she is jumping, she is thrown off to her death. This absolutely destroys Rhett, because Bonnie was the highlight of his life. He shuts himself up in a room with her, and refuses to bury her because she was always afraid of the dark. Scarlett and Rhett start pointing fingers for the death. Melanie finally convinces Rhett that Bonnie needs to be buried.
