The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian 101-200
It was thanksgiving and Junior kept wondering about what Indians have to be thankful for. And all this wondering made him miss Rowdy even more. So he drew a cartoon of him and Rowdy and went over to his house to give it to him. Rowdy's dad answered and when he gave it to him, Rowdy's dad made a remark about if he was gay and then slammed the door in his face. After really getting to know Penelope, he learns a lot about her. She says she is tired of being the pretty, popular, and smart girl and wants something different. She tells Junior her dreams and what she wants to do with her life. This is when they start to 'semi-date' and instantly Junior becomes more popular. Everyone starts to pay more attention to him, even the teachers do. After people get to know him better and hang out with him, he is scared of the fact that they might find out the truth about him. And that truth was that he was poor, dirt poor. He acted middle class just to fit in with everyone. He didn't want people to think less of him and then stop hanging out with him or talk to him. So the winter formal comes up, and he plans on taking Penelope. He is really nervous because people might definitely find out the truth. He only had five dollars in his pocket and he had to wear his dad's suit from the 70's. He thought everyone would laugh at him. When he got there, everyone loved the old school look of his suit and wished they would have thought of doing the same thing. After a wonderful night of dancing every song with Penelope, Roger and all his upperclassmen friends decide to make a pancake run. Since Junior was pretty popular, Roger invited him and Penelope to come. He knows he has no money to pay for both him and Penelope, so he hopes that Penelope's dad will say no. Her father says yes, so they all pile into Roger's car and head over. He orders a huge mess of pancakes for him and Penelope knowing that he can't pay for it. As he makes a trip to the bathroom, Roger comes in and Junior tells him that he forgot his wallet. Roger kindly tells Junior not to worry about it and lends him forty dollars. After they get back to the school, Junior and Penelope get out of the car to have their good bye kiss and what not, and Penelope tells Junior that Roger told her what he did. Then she asks him if he is poor and he tells her the truth. After some convincing from his dad, Junior signs up for the basketball team. He figures he won't even make the team, but after an intense game of one-on-one with Roger, the coach realizes how determined and how great of a shooter he is, he makes the team. Their first game is against Wellpinit. After walking through the gym and getting yelled at by fans, the game starts. Not long after the game starts, Junior goes in and gets hit right in the forehead by a quarter a fan threw. As he goes back to the locker room bleeding, he asks Eugene, his dad's best friend, if he can stitch him up. He does so and goes back out the game. Once he is in, he gets the ball and goes for a lay-up, only to get knocked in the head with an elbow from Rowdy. This makes him go unconscious and gets sent to the hospital. As he is telling about how great his grandmother is and the tolerance she has, he tells about her getting killed by a drunk driver one night. This upsets him very much, and upsets the whole reservation. Through the whole thing, no one gave him crap about switching schools. Not long after, Eugene gets shot in the face by one of his drunk friends after an argument they had. After being put in jail, his friend felt so bad that he hung himself in jail. he went into a deep depression and didn't go to school for a couple days. Once he returned, the teacher gave him grief about missing so much school and all the kids got up, slammed their books on the ground, and walked out. Junior followed them, and that gave him a sense of joy. So then he started to write down all the things that made him happy, from famous basketball players to food. As the basketball season goes on, a rematch of Reardan and Wellpinit comes up. Junior is very nervous and throws up about every chance he gets. This time it was a home game, and Coach wanted him to start so he could guard Rowdy. As game tips off, Rowdy gets the ball and dashes for the hoop. Junior knew he was gonna dunk it, so instead of fouling him, he jumps like he has never jumped before and steals the ball right out of his hands and races back to his hoop. As Rowdy gets in front of him, he head fakes and makes Rowdy fall for it. He pulls up for a three and nails it. The crowd is going wild and Rowdy is stunned. Junior only made three points that game, but he held Rowdy to only four points. This was very proud moment, but suddenly Junior feels ashamed and runs into the bathroom and throws up and starts crying. After a great season, they end up losing to a terrible team in the playoffs and ends the season. He emails Rowdy and tells him he is sorry about what they did. He only replies back with " we'll beat you next year, and then you'll cry like the little faggot you are". Junior replies back with "I might be a faggot, but I'm the faggot who beat you." Rowdy's only response to that is "ha-ha."
