The Book Thief 100-200

For Hitler's birthday Hans and Rosa's children came back. Hans and his son don't get along very well because his son is a very strong Nazi while Hans is more just doing it for his families and his own safety. They ended up getting in to an argument about it and his son left. For Hitler's birthday they had a book burning and this was one of Liesel's favorite things because this gave her the opportunity to be a book thief yet again. She stole a book at the book burning and thought that someone saw her, but they never came after her so she didn't worry about it. Papa found out she was stealing the books but he wasn't mad. One day she was delivering laundry to the mayor's wife when she showed her a whole library full of books. Liesel had never seen anything like it and she was so thankful to the mayor's wife. Liesel and Rudy stole some apples with another group of kids one time and they knew they weren't supposed to but the food tasted so good they couldn't help it. One day a man named Walter Kugler asked Hans if he still played the accordion which Hans knew meant that someone needed his help. Hans said yes and agreed to keep Max Vandenburg, a Jew and one of his friend's sons, with him in his house. Liesel didn't know what was going on but Papa told her that she needed to keep this man secret and she couldn't tell anyone or horrible things would happen. Max was very thankful for Hans and Rosa for keeping him because he knew how dangerous it was for all of them.
