The Postmistress 234-333

When Dr. Fitch died, Frankie found a letter on him that he was intending to send to Emma, and she felt it was her duty to make sure it got to Emma. Frankie started to become too emotionally exhausted by her job. She couldn’t handle hearing all the people’s stories and then not knowing how she ended. So, she went to the United States to Franklin, Massachusetts. Some of the people there know her from her radio shows. She plays some of the tapes she recorded for one man, and he even hears his wife’s voice on it to know that she’s alive. Frankie meets Iris, Emma, Harry, and the other people of the town. When she meets Emma, she knows she should relay the letter, but for some reason, she can’t. She just gets nervous every time she thinks about it. Emma’s about eight months pregnant now, and she still hopes and prays that her husband is alive even though she hasn’t heard from him in months, and Frankie doesn’t want to ruin that hope. Iris feels the same way. She received a letter telling Emma that her husband had died, but she never delivers it to Emma.
